Euro 6 MAN Lion’s City launched in Singapore

The new MAN Lion’s City is set to be launched on Singapore roads.

In late April 2018, photos of the new buses have been circulating on the internet. These buses are believed to be procured through a negotiated contract between the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd (ST Kinetics), the authorised local dealer for MAN Trucks & Buses.

Since the start of the Bus Contracting Model (BCM), the LTA has assumed responsibility for the procurement of buses. Apart from Open tenders, the LTA previously purchased buses under negotiated contracts, such as 100 Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses, 176 Volvo B9TL buses, and 122 MAN A95 buses.

These new MAN Lion’s City buses are Euro 6-compliant (or Euro VI). Since 1 January 2018, diesel vehicles registered in Singapore must fulfil this emission standard. In addition, they are bodied by Gemilang Coachworks of the MAN Lion’s City bodywork, likely licensed by MAN. However, unlike integral units of the MAN Lion’s City which have a distinctive design, the local units bear bodywork elements heavily borrowed from the MAN A24 and MAN A95 buses previously procured for the local market.

As revealed online, new requirements imposed by the LTA for new buses include an enhanced Passenger Information Display System (PIDS) comprising LED text displays, LCD display screens and interior speakers. In addition, an exterior-facing display screen and an external speaker is included. An Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), driver anti-fatigue detection system, high-definition CCTV cameras, and passenger counters at entrance and exit doors of the bus are just some of the additional specifications required by LTA.

The buses are also equipped with 2 wheelchair bays. The Diesel-Hybrid buses (Volvo 7900 Hybrid), Euro 6 Double Deck Diesel buses and Electric buses will also feature 2 wheelchair bays.

These buses are expected to be registered as SG1749E onwards.

Other Euro 6 Public Buses

Presently, other Euro-VI public buses are operating on Singapore roads. One is a MAN A95 (SG2017C), and the other is a Volvo B8L (SG4003D).

I think the buses will be allocated to sbs transit as the back led is on the left as most of the sbs buses back led is on the left.
