Marina South Pier MRT Station (NS28) is an underground station and the southern terminus of the North South Line (NSL). It is built adjacent to the Marina South Pier ferry terminal and underneath Marina Coastal Drive.

The station is named after the ferry terminal it serves, bringing rail connectivity to the seaside areas at Marina South, with Marina South Pier and Marina Bay Cruise Centre being the only nearby landmarks. While passenger ferries are offered to the Southern Islands from Marina South Pier (most frequently St. John’s Island and Kusu Island), cruise ships dock at Marina Bay Cruise Centre which currently sees few visitors on a regular basis.

Marina South Pier station has two underground North South Line platforms in an island platform arrangement.

Trains from Marina Bay arrive at Platform B, which is used for the alighting of passengers only. Trains switch tracks at a set of points further up the line, then re-enter the station on Platform A, picking up passengers before departing for Marina Bay.

Concourse

The station has a ticket concourse located at Basement 1, with an unpaid corridor allowing pedestrians to use the station’s underground passages between exits without entering paid areas.

Singapore Tapestry

Art In Transit: “Singapore Tapestry”

The Singapore Tapestry is a 80 square metre mural (31 metres long and 2.6 metres tall) on permanent display at the station, commissioned by LTA as a SG50 gift to Singapore. Nearly 1,500 participants from different walks of life created the clay pieces which were hand-painted, oven-fired and assembled into the mural that now decorates the length of the station concourse.

Art In Transit: “Past. Present. Future.”

Two art pieces formed of around 27,000 retired EZ-Link cards decorate both station exits. One depicts historical landmarks (such as the Old Supreme Court, Saint Andrew’s Church and Central Fire Station) while the other depicts modern structures (such as Marina Bay Sands, the Esplanade and Gardens by the Bay).

Marina Barrage is already served by TE22 Gardens by the Bay, and Marina Bay is an interchange for the TEL anyway.

SMRT should increase frequency to one out of two during the Kusu Island pilgrimage; there would be more passengers going there during this period.
