Introduction
Public transport was enhanced this long weekend as Singapore celebrated its Golden Jubilee, marking fifty years since independence. Apart from existing bus diversions in the City as well as in the heartlands, bus and train service hours were extended on 6, 8 and 9 August 2015. Additionally, free rides were offered on all train lines and bus services on National Day, 9 August 2015.

Train services were extended on 6, 8 and 9 August 2015 as such:

Extended bus operating hours:
Bus operating hours for selected Feeder, Townlink/Intratown and Shortworking trips of trunk services were extended on 6, 8 and 9 August 2015 to connect with the last train. For Townlink and Intratown services (except 222, 307) with extended operating hours, last buses depart for both directions of the service and terminate at the interchange.

Free Rides on 9 August
In celebration of Singapore’s Golden Jubilee, free rides were offered on all train lines and bus services on National Day, 9 August 2015. This encouraged the public to attend National Day celebrations island-wide, without worrying about parking or traffic congestion.
Fare gates at all MRT and LRT stations were left open to grant free travel throughout the train network. All public bus services allowed free boarding, including non-basic services such as Express, Parks, Chinatown Direct, NightRider, Night Owl, and SMRT Bus Services 926. RWS8 operated as per normal and did not qualify for free rides.
The free travel was available from the first bus/train to the last bus/train on 9 Aug only. Commuters boarding late night buses or trains past midnight of 8 Aug did not qualify for free travel.
Concession pass holders were not granted an additional day extension in lieu of the one day free travel.

Free Shuttle from Gardens by the Bay to Buona Vista MRT
SMRT Buses operated a free shuttle service from Gardens by the Bay to Buona Vista MRT on Sunday, 9 August 2015, from 8:30pm to 12 midnight at 10-minute frequencies. The shuttle allowed passengers to connect to the East-West Line or Circle Line for their onward journey, or buses serving the Buona Vista area.
The boarding point for the free shuttle was at the Gardens By the Bay coach pick-up point, near the main entrance to Gardens By the Bay along Marina Gardens Drive.
