Wireless@SG now available on two public buses!

The Wireless@SG Trial has ended as of August 2016.

As part of a Heterogenous Network (HetNet) trial with the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, two public buses have been equipped with a WiFi router which connects commuters to the internet through M1’s 4G+ network since 12 April 2016.

The two buses, SMB1410D and SMB1419E, can be found on SMRT Bus Service 176, which runs between Bukit Panjang and Bukit Merah Bus Interchanges. SMRT Buses’ Vice-President Tan Kian Heong says that the wireless services may be expanded to the entire SMRT bus fleet in the future if the trial is successful.

Wireless services have made stints on public buses previously. In 2007, Nokia teamed up with SBS Transit to launch 12 buses with free WiFi services. In 2010, SMRT launched the trial of the MAN A22 bus, registered as SMB138Y, which provided WiFi services as well.

In LTA’s Our Bus Journey exhibition held in March-April 2016, one of the concept buses featured Wireless Internet services.

At the moment, free WiFi in the public transport system is only available at 33 MRT Stations. Buses, (moving) trains, and bus interchanges do not have free WiFi services.

    Hi,

When you say that “The Wireless@SG Trial has ended as of August 2016”, does it mean that this WIFI service is no longer available on those two buses anymore or that it was a successful trial & thus fully available to the public on a daily basis?

    Thanks.

This is bus service 176, not 912.
