Beauty World Integrated Transport Hub

Beauty World Bus Interchange is a future Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) located at Beauty World, currently under planning. It is located at the junction of Jalan Jurong Kechil and Upper Bukit Timah Road. Rail connections are offered via Beauty World MRT Station along the Downtown Line.

Plans for the interchange were first mooted as part of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA)’s 2019 Draft Masterplan. A tender for the design and construction of the mixed-use development was called in June 2020, with an aim to spur the rejuvenation of Beauty World and inject vibrancy into the area.

The Interchange:

Beauty World Integrated Transport Hub is a bus interchange located in the Beauty World commercial and residential area. Connecting with Beauty World MRT Station along the Downtown MRT Line, the interchange is envisioned as a transport node for residents of Beauty World, allowing for convenient transfers between the bus and rail network.

The mixed-use development site is bordered by Jalan Jurong Kechil to the west; Jalan Anak Bukit to the north; Pan-Island Expressway (PIE, Anak Bukit Flyover) to the east; and Upper Bukit Timah Road to the south.

Nearby developments include Beauty World Plaza, Beauty World Centre, Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, Bukit Timah Plaza, Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre, Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School, HDB Toh Yi Estate, shophouses along Cheong Chin Nam Road, and Rifle Range Nature Park. Future nearby developments include the Rail Corridor, Bukit Timah-Rochor Green Corridor, The Linq @ Beauty World, a future Bukit Timah Community Building (integrated Community Club, market & hawker centre), and more developments to be announced.

According to tender documents, the interchange will be located at upper ground level. The gross floor area (GFA) of the bus interchange must be more than 5,000 square metres, inclusive of at least 400 square metres for passenger concourse passageways and retail space.

Developers for the land redevelopment would enter a Design & Build Agreement with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) for the design and construction of the bus interchange. The LTA would reimburse all costs relating to bus interchange design and construction.

A notional interchange layout supplied with the tender indicates 2 alighting berths and 4 boarding berths; however none of these plans are confirmed, and tenderers are encouraged to propose alternative layouts based on a holistic consideration of the overall design of the proposed development.

Vehicular access points to the interchange will be provided by two Left-In Left-Out junctions at Jalan Jurong Kechil and Upper Bukit Timah Road (southbound). Currently, Upper Bukit Timah Road between Jalan Jurong Kechil and Clementi Road only serves northbound traffic; this road is expected to be upgraded to a dual carriageway road in the future.

Connections

The integrated development will feature an underground pedestrian link connecting to Beauty World MRT Station near Exit C, and an overhead pedestrian bridge over Upper Bukit Timah Road, connecting to Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre.

More than the most hoping for the Beauty World Integrated Transport Hub to be the supplementary ITH to the Bukit Batok Integrated Transport Hub with the future bus routes & services, especially the feeder ones serving Bukit Batok & the future ones featuring the 940s & the 94- 3 digit bus routes & services being also originating from Beauty World ITH besides Bukit Batok ITH with Feeder Routes & Services 941, 945 & 947 from the ITH as well.

Might think Ulu Pandan Depot is the nearest to this interchange.I agreed that to leave the current bus service as it is except for 41.Might have new service too and feeder service as it is Interchange afterall. If you ask me honestly it’s quite redundant to built this compared to Woodlands which need another interchange.

Best is leave all existing bus services as it is. Even with the downtown line. The normal services still get a good loading. Except for 41 that can terminate there. It would be best to instead have new routes starting from this new interchange.

61 can cut short to Beauty World because there are many buses that can ply to Bukit Batok from there direct. And 173 can cut short here to Beauty World, with a new service at Lorong Kismis covering the missing link of 173 to clementi. 41 can be amended to ply Lorong Kismis before ending at Beauty world on a loop service and 973 to be extended to beauty World after Hume Ave via Upp Bukit Timah Rd, Old Jurong road and Jalan jurong kechil to bring more options for the residents along there to Hill V2

Disagree for 61, due to the loss of direct link between Bukit Batok & Clementi Rd / Ulu Pandan Rd. NP area still sees high demand. Better split for 61 would be somewhere in CBD.
Not much point separating 173 in two, seeing that its loading is already quite low. 973 seems okay but not much point.

      My idea would be:
      (1) Split 171 –> two services, Yishun-BW (unique catchment) & BPJ-Marina Ctr (parallel to DTL, there’s still demand given DDs)
      (2) Split 961 –> two services, Woodlands-BW & BW-Geylang. There’s 67, 960 and DTL as alternative along all broken links. If need be can amend 178 as well to separate high/low demand areas.
      (3) New service to BB West & upcoming Tengah; may merge with 944.
      (4) New service to NUS / Kent Ridge / Science Park area.
