Service 36 is a popular route for commuters travelling between Marine Parade and the City, and thus encounters high demand during weekday peak hours and weekends between these sectors. This connection is also served by Service 16, which travels along a different route via Nicoll Highway and Tanjong Katong.

From Changi Airport, Service 36 is also the only direct bus route that connects to the City. However, the long travel time compared to other transport modes (East-West Line, Airport-City shuttle, or taxi services) makes it a less popular option among commuters.

Take note that Service 36 does not call at Airport Blvd (Near SATS Flight Kitchen). It is also the sole bus service to stop at ECP (Aft E.C. Sea Sports Club) bus stop within Carpark F3 of East Coast Park, the only bus stop along the ECP.

Daily Operations

Bus Service 36 operates as a continuous loop, where passengers need not disembark at the terminus (Changi Airport Terminal 2). Instead, buses layover for a short duration at Terminal 2, with a change of Bus Captain before continuing the journey. Passengers wishing to continue their journey after Terminal 2 can remain onboard the bus while another driver takes over, without incurring a new ride. This practice is referred to as clowbus (crew layover without bus), where bus drivers rotate themselves between buses and do not stick to a permanent bus for the day.

Service 36 is also the only route to terminate at Changi Airport; all other public bus services loop at the Airport. During the late night hours, Service 36 operates half-trips terminating in the City as Short Trip 36A. Demand for Service 36 is concentrated between Marine Parade and the City, and this sector is enhanced by Short Trip 36B during the peak hours.

Finally, for certain trips that terminate at Changi Airport Terminal 2, the T suffix is used, and buses operate as Service 36T.

Service 36 is also prone to delays and bus bunching, due to its relatively long route and road congestion in the City areas.

Changi Airport operations:

Service 36 serves Changi Airport Terminals 3, 1, 2 & 4 in order.

Changi Airport Passenger Terminal Buildings (PTBs) 1, 2 and 3 have their bus stops integrated into their basement levels, which also serves as a cargo loading and unloading bay. Security checks for any unattended or suspicious articles are carried out before a bus enters Terminals 1, 2 and 3. Because of height restrictions, double-decker buses are unable to enter Changi Airport basement.

Occasionally when Changi Airport basement is closed, buses will be diverted to T1/T2/T3 Departure Drive where a temporary bus stop will be set up.

Announcements for passengers to inform the Bus Captain if they see any suspicious person or article are played on board public buses at Changi Airport as well.

Since CGA can’t have proper terminal for buses to park might as well extend to Bukit Merah and be under Bukit Merah Package instead.

For the fact that 36 waiting time is about 20 mins or Longer, can the bus captain please slow down at bus stop especially at opp Mandarian Orchard bus stop as there is a huge tree blocking the view of the incoming bus and when the bus captain speeds they could not stop in time when we flag! We wasted 20 mins of waiting and are late to work. This is not the first encounter for me. Once, the bus captain refuse to stop when I flag. Please ensure to remind all bus captain to slow down at bus stops.

Any particular reason why we should board Bus #36 from Terminal 2 instead of Terminal 3 or 1?
    Thanks

      Hi Traveller,

Some Service 36 buses scheduled to return to depot will change their destination signage to “OFF SERVICE” at Terminals 3 and 1. As such, commuters at Terminals 3 & 1 may experience a prolonged waiting time for Bus Service 36. This has already resulted in several complains on Go-Ahead Singapore’s official Facebook Page. Buses freshly deployed from the bus depot will start their trip at Terminal 2. Hence we strongly advise commuters to board Bus Service 36 at Terminal 2.

      With Regards,
