New Exits & TEL Concourse open at Caldecott MRT Station

On 28 February 2021, 2 new exits were opened at Caldecott MRT Station. Exits 2 and 3 link Caldecott station to Toa Payoh Rise, passing through the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) station concourse.

Currently part of the Circle Line, Caldecott station will be an interchange station with the Thomson-East Coast Line Stage 2 by Q3 2021, with the station code CC17TE9.

Exits 2, 3 and 4 were constructed as part of the Thomson-East Coast Line station. Currently, Exit 4 is closed to the public.

At the same time, the former Circle Line Exit A was closed in November 2020. Exit B was renumbered to Exit 1.

Both Exits 2 & 3 along Toa Payoh Rise are directly linked to the upcoming TEL Ticket Concourse at Basement 1.

Since the TEL has yet to open, ticketing machines and other facilities at TEL Caldecott Station are not in use. Faregates have been installed, but are opened for free passage.

Finally, a pedestrian link has been opened between the TEL and CCL concourses. Since the pedestrian link is located beyond the faregates, it is expected to be converted to a paid link in the future, for the benefit of commuters transferring between the CCL and TEL. The TEL Stage 2 is expected to commence revenue service in Q3 2021.

Implementing the paid link will necessitate the realignment of faregates and Passenger Service Centre at CCL Caldecott Station. As of February 2021, the Passenger Service Centre has already relocated from the Exit A side to Exit B side (currently Exit 1). Construction work to relocate the gantries was observed to be in progress, with floor tiles removed.

Other TEL infrastructure in public use

On 23 November 2019, a 65-metre underpass underneath Dunearn Road and Bukit Timah Road opened, connecting Singapore Chinese Girls’ School with Stevens MRT station. Parts of the underground linkways were constructed as part of TEL works, and opened ahead of time for the benefit of commuter passage.

Mmmm now it seems like the signs to the respective lines changed a little here from the ones at TEL1 stations. The TEL1 stations only wrote “TE” and “NS”, here at Caldecott it’s written as “TEL” and “CCL”.

I really wonder what prompted the change 🤔

It seems like the public is more inclined to use TEL. I haven’t heard anyone referring to the line as “TE Line”.

Another question. How will the signages look like with the LRTs? BPLRT/SKLRT/PGLRT on caplets? Much needs to be addressed especially with the future JRL station at Jalan Bahar.
