Sembawang-Yishun Bus Package Tranche 1 – Yishun

5 September 2021

From 5 September 2021, Tower Transit will operate 9 bus services from Yishun under the Sembawang-Yishun Bus Package.

8 of these services are currently operated by SMRT Buses, as follows:

City Direct 663 was already operated by Tower Transit prior to the handover.

As the Tower Transit service guide for Service 856 does not include Service 856A, the service may be withdrawn on 5 Sep 2021.

Congrats to MAN A95 Euro 6 TTS Bus Service 853/M, when 853/M was under SMRT, it was all single-Deck, but after its operating Tower Transit now, should have both Single-Deck and Double-Deck Buses on 853 and 853M.

Congratulations TTS for the improvement,Now 171,853 & 856 have perm DDs although it’s too much for 171 & 853 but at least the speed of 854 & 857 improved significantly unlike during SMRT days.I suspect they reduce the number of buses and focus more on time arrival and downroute. This show how TTS has the experience of SG bus operation over the 5 years they have been here.I would dare say GAS also can do better if they get a couple of packages in future.

As an ex-employee of SMRT Amdep for more than 11 years,I hope TTS don’t screw with deployment or runtime for essential Mandai service.
Yishun ITH:854,If possible deploy full DD and no need for 30 buses like what SMRT does.Add more downroute towards Bedok from Hougang area in the morning peak.
856>Maintain as it is,Don’t play jumpbus as the service is famous for complaints beside Yishun feeders.
    857>Full DD on weekends.

Woodlands ITH:169,Full DD and can cut 2-3 buses already.Morning peak from Yishun to Admiralty take note..

    LTA should swap 853/M,854 & 854e with 851,851e & 852.Reduce many dead mileage.

SBST Seletar can dual control 854 with Bedok while TTS Mandai can dual control 852 with Bulim.

But will any services have buses from both Bulim and Mandai, giving a chance for SBS plate buses to appear on those routes?

          Only for Bulim…Mandai it’s not possible.SMRT has more than enough buses to transfer over.SG plate B3 A22 E5 buses still haven’t transfer,The 858 Citaros also e same.

I was actually thinking about it too, what if the Batch 2 and 3 B9TLs that Go-Ahead sent back to storage will be used for the Sembawang-Yishun package? However I think it is unlikely anyways since SMRT probably has enough buses to transfer to Tower Transit.
