Jalan Besar MRT Station (DT22) is an underground station along the Downtown Line (DTL) Stage 3. It is built underneath the main road of Jalan Besar, at the junction with Weld Road, and serves the nearby civic districts around the Little India and Sungei Road planning areas.
The station is named after Jalan Besar, the main road which literally means “large road” in Malay. Despite being in close proximity to DT13 Rochor station, these stations are eight stations apart along the Downtown Line and not connected by pedestrian links. Here, the deep DTL tunnels run underneath the North-South Corridor and the Rochor-Bugis section of the DTL.
The station is built in close proximity to the HDB estates of Rowell Court and Kelantan Court, Sim Lim Tower, as well as shophouses and schools which spread around the area. The nearby Queen Street Bus terminal offers bus connections to Johor Bahru.

Jalan Besar station has two platforms in an island platform arrangement, with both platforms utilized for trains travelling in either direction. Full-height Platform screen doors isolate the air-conditioned station from the tunnel environment, enhancing commuter safety and station comfort.
Passenger Information Systems, which are plasma display screens located at each platform, display expected train arrival times and key messages. Tactile flooring helps to guide the visually-handicapped from the platform to the station exits.
The lift at the platform serves B4 (Platform), B2 (Ticket Concourse) and B1 (Underpass). Commuters have to tap in via the faregates at B1 to use the lift.
The concourse features faregates for automatic fare collection and provides access between paid and unpaid areas of the station, with at least one bidirectional wide-swinging gate for the benefit of passengers-in-wheelchairs and those carrying bulky items or travelling with prams.
General Ticketing Machines allow commuters to purchase tickets for single or multiple journeys, and along with Top-up Machines, offer contactless card transactions. The station office functions as a Passenger Service Centre, and is staffed during operating hours, where commuters may make travel inquiries or perform card transactions using cash payment.
The Underpass at B1 connects both Exit A & B (at street level) with the DTL Ticket Concourse at B2. A lift accessible through faregates at the underpass brings commuters direct to the platform level at B4.
Public Toilets are located at the Underpass at B1.
