Partial Closure of Punggol Road for Punggol Digital District development

To facilitate redevelopment works, a part of Punggol Road and Ponggol Seventeenth Avenue will be permanently closed with effect from 26th August 2018.

The following segments will be closed:

  • Punggol Road, between New Punggol Road and Punggol Way
  • Ponggol Seventeenth Avenue, between Punggol Road and St Francis Xavier Major Seminary

Affected motorists and cyclists are advised to seek an alternative route via Punggol Way.

Go-Ahead Bus Service 84 will be amended to Sentul Crescent and Punggol Way, passing through Sam Kee, Nibong, Samudera and Punggol Point LRT stations. New bus stops have been built, which will be operational from 26th August 2018 as well.

The road closure will allow for the development of Punggol Digital District and Punggol Coast MRT Station. Future developments in the area include the Singapore Institute of Technology campus, which will be served by the currently-unopened Teck Lee LRT station.

The closed section of the road will become part of a 1.3-kilometre heritage trail, linking Punggol Waterway Park to the Punggol Point waterfront. New Punggol Road is currently being built to the east and running parallel to the old road.

I think LTA should have amended Service 84 to ply the Punggol Field and full stretch of Punggol Walk, then join back the diverted route at Sumang Link. This route duplicates Service 382G/W quite a bit. After this amendment, the lost sector at a pair of bus stops (Blk 301A and Blk 604A) along Punggol Rd can be served by amending Service 50.
