Bidadari Bus Interchange

Bidadari Bus Interchange is a future Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) located at Bidadari, serving residential areas around Bidadari, Joo Seng and Potong Pasir.

The interchange is the first air-conditioned underground bus interchange beneath public housing flats, integrated within Woodleigh Village and seamlessly connected to Woodleigh MRT Station via an underground link. Amenities at Woodleigh Village include a Hawker Centre, Childcare Centre as well as a Resident’s Committee Centre. Situated on top of the Bus Interchange are 360 Housing & Development Board (HDB) Build-To-Order (BTO) flats as part of the Woodleigh Village mixed use development.

Plans for the interchange were confirmed in September 2014 and was expected to be ready by Year 2019.

The Interchange:

Bidadari Integrated Transport Hub is a bus interchange located in the residential town of Bidadari. Connecting with Woodleigh MRT Station along the North East MRT Line, the interchange is a transport node for commuters heading in and out of town, allowing for convenient transfers between the rail network and the many bus services at the interchange.

The interchange site is bordered by Upper Serangoon Road to the west; Woodleigh Link to the north; Bidadari Park Drive to the east; and Heritage Walk (former Upper Aljunied Road) to the south.

Slated for completion in 2019 (delayed), Bidadari Bus Interchange will be one of the newest Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) to be opened in Singapore, after Toa Payoh in May 2002, Sengkang in Jan 2003, Ang Mo Kio in Apr 2007, Boon Lay in Dec 2009, Serangoon in Sep 2011, Clementi in Nov 2011, Bedok in Nov 2014, Joo Koon in Nov 2015 and Bukit Panjang in 2017. The interchange is integrated within the Woodleigh Village development, with several retail shops, a Hawker Centre and HDB BTO Flats, hence combining retail, residential and transportation facilities under one roof.

Located at Basement 2 of Woodleigh Village, it is the first underground air-conditioned bus interchange below Housing Board Flats in Singapore.

The interchange has a single vehicular concourse area with a bus park in the middle, with 15 rigid bus lots and 3 bendy bus lots. Vehicles and exit enter the interchange via an ingress & egress along Bidadari Park Drive.

The passenger concourse features three sawtooth boarding berths and an alighting berth with space for 2 buses. Pedestrian entrance/exits are located within the interchange, leading to Woodleigh Village and Woodleigh MRT Station. One boarding berth and one alighting berth in the interchange is dedicated for bendy-bus operations, featuring an 18m long bus bay.

An underpass is expected to be constructed to link Bidadari Bus Interchange with The Woodleigh Residences & The Woodleigh Mall, which form a mixed commercial and residential development integrated with community club and neighbourhood police centre to the south of Woodleigh Village. Both developments will be connected to Woodleigh MRT Station via an underground link.

    Possible feeder services:

Possible extend bus 115 and 42 to here.

    My guess
    SV 81 – Tampines Bus ain’t
Sv 82 – Punggol Bus Int
Sv 100 – Ghim Moh Bus Ter
Sv 108 – Kent Ridge Bus Ter (new sv)
Sv 113 – Hougang Ctrl Bus Int (LOOP)
Sv 128 – Bukit Merah Bus Int (if ever returned to revenue sv)
    Sv 142 – Toa Payoh Bus Int(LOOP)

Hud, I think 128 from Bt Merah Int to this Int doesn’t looks great. Maybe 132 will be amended to end here when CRL 1 opens because it duplicate most of the station apart from the stretch from Defu to Aviation Park.

    Possible candidates is 81.
100 to terminate at Bidadari.71 also possible.
107/135 not possible as they’re under SKG-HGN & Seletar respectively.82 need to loop at SGN Ctrl.82 might possibly extend to the new Punggol North Int in the future.I hope 53 can start from here.53M from Bishan-Bidadari..The Airport crowds starts from Lor Ah Soo/Hougang Ave 1/PSR anyway.

I may think Service 53 might be a candidate to be shorten to this Interchange as the sole route to Airport.
Then the bus to western part of Singapore, I dun think that Service 100 is enough to just serve to Western Part of Singapore.

I wouldn’t mind Service 147 to terminate there. But my hope is to extend back Service 111 to terminate here rather than looping at Marina Centre only.

Bus Service 53 is usually crowded during peak and non peak hours, the crowd usually starts at Serangoon Stn Exit C/Blk 201 and even with 53M it is still not enough to help reduce the number of commuters. So if you reroute 53, 53M to Bidarari, commuters shopping at NEX and boarding from Serangoon MRT Exit C will start complaining because of the route being changed and these commuters mostly alight at the bus stop BLK 115 so which means if Bus 45 is also crowded than that means route change is uneffective. And if you divert 53 to serve the bus stop which 45 stops at, people would still be angry as those taking Circle line still have to walk a little bit further. Instead, having a connection between the North East Line (Exit C) and the Circle Line ( Nex Exit with crossing overhead bridge, can help the commuters travelling on bus 53 save time walking and get back home easily, the people travelling on the bus are also usually Old Uncles/ Old Aunties/Disabled people and they might not be used to walking different routes when bus route is changed. You need the bus 53/53M route to be the same so that people boarding from Serangoon and Hougang Ave 1(Like Me) will not start complaining and we can have a Bishan direct connection to the Airport as well, sometimes I also would see people with luggage boarding at Bishan and Serangoon MRT as well.

My guess for services to terminate here is:
    Svc 81 & Svc 82
    Svc 71
    Svc 142
    Hoping to terminate here:
    Svc 113
    Svc 155
Svc 111 (Extend back via Serangoon Road & Upp Serangoon Road)
Svc 107 (duplicate Svc 100 to Shenton Way)

Not sure if the opening date for this interchange will be pushed back further due to covid-19 but anyways, here are my route suggestions for this interchange:

53M can be extended southwards to Bidadari Int and also northwards to loop at Changi Airport, duplicating 53. Can use MAN A24s on this route to cope with the airport demand since Bishan Int doesn’t have dedicated bendy lots.

71 can be extended to Bidadari Int via Toa Payoh estate, Jln Toa Payoh and Upp Serangoon Road, linking Toa Payoh East to NEL and also supplementing 57 to Bishan.

81 & 82 can be extended to Bidadari Int via Serangoon Ave 1 and the future Bidadari Park Dr extension to Bartley Rd.

135 can be shortened to start from Bidadari Int and its missing AMK – Upper Serangoon sector can be easily covered by 853/M.

141 can be extended to Bidadari via Lor 2, 4, 6 Toa Payoh and duplicating 71’s extended route to Bidadari Int, thus providing Bidadari and Potong Pasir residents a direct route to Novena area.

A new service to the east region via Bartley Rd and Bartley Rd East. Can possibly terminate at Changi Biz Park Ter or at the future Tampines North ITH.

A new short trunk service serving Joo Seng and MacPherson housing/Industrial estate, calling at roads which are currently not served by any service such as Joo Seng Rd, Little Rd and Kg Ampat etc.
