Bus Service 179B is a supplementary variant of Bus Service 179, operating during afternoon & evening peak hours on weekdays within the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) school term.

The supplementary service skips stops along Pioneer Road North, providing a faster and direct connection from NTU to Pioneer MRT Station.

Service 179B replaces the afternoon and evening peak operations of Service 179A, which also skips all stops along Pioneer Road North and Jurong West Street 63 towards Boon Lay Interchange. However, unlike Service 179A, Service 179B terminates at Pioneer MRT Station, providing a quicker link to the MRT network.

Additional trips are operated from Nanyang Dr (Wee Kim Wee Sch of C&I) as well.

When launching 179C just for Pioneer Road North residents, especially those at blk 840-949 bus stops? They only have 179, and the frequency is very irregular, usually have bus brunching.

Long overdue tbh, once the EWL was extended to Joo Koon back in 2009 this should have been implemented. As they say, better late than never.
