Changi Airport MRT station cannot be closed entirely temporarily, because that’s the main connecting line to and from Changi Airport since the MRT to Changi Airport opened in 2002.

Therefore, the only solution is to close Changi Airport MRT station half at a time, which means: one platform at a time, to do retrofication works.

Harbourfront MRT station on the circle line is currently a terminal station, and only one platform is actually used for boarding and alighting purpose, whereas the other platform is occassionally used for alighting purpose only. Changi Airport MRT station can just copy the current Harbourfront MRT station (circle line) method during the transition phase from EWL to TEL.

Meanwhile, Tanah Merah to Expo section can simply close entirely temporarily, cuz got DTL as the alternative MRT route.

They only really need to operate a single train to run only between Expo and Changi Airport during the transition phase from EWL to TEL, while the Tanah Merah to Expo section close entirely temporarily and the Expo to Changi section close half at a time temporarily, during the transition phase.

So, essentially, during the transition phase where only half of Changi Airport MRT station is open, and probably only one train running, that section from Expo to Changi Airport will have the waiting time equivalent to the to and fro duration (approximately 8 minutes) and the stopping time at the two stations (approximately 2 minutes each, 4 minutes in total). Altogether = 12 minutes waiting time.

It’s no doubt a compromise, but this is the best solution. If only keep half of the Expo to Changi Airport section running, the waiting time is 12 minutes. If it is Tanah Merah to Changi Airport keep half running, the waiting time will be 2 times longer (24 minutes).

With that, the following is my prediction on the ultimate arrangement during the transition phase from EWL to TEL.
