A decommissioned MRT train carriage (Car 2317; C751B Train) is set to be up-cycled to be an educational platform located at City Square Mall, which is one of the developments by City Developments Limited (CDL) which opened in 2009 and is known for being Singapore’s first eco-mall, incorporating sustainable design features.

CDL EcoTrain

A new initiative is set to launch in 2024, with the CDL EcoTrain transforming a decommissioned MRT train cabin into the EcoTrain Educational Centre. This exciting project, developed in partnership with CDL Sustainability, aims to create a vibrant space dedicated to fostering a love for learning about sustainability.

The train carriage, car 2317, arrived on the night of 18 September 2024 from Tuas West Depot, while the remaining two cars of the trainset (cars 3317 and 1317) were sent for scrapping.

The EcoTrain will feature a public exhibition area with rotating eco-themed displays and a workshop space for various eco programs. Through these engaging experiences, the EcoTrain hopes to inspire curiosity and emphasize the importance of education in building a brighter, more sustainable future.

Located at City Square Mall, the EcoTrain will also enhance outreach efforts by the Singapore Sustainability Academy. This innovative project is being developed in collaboration with Just Keep Thinking, Singapore’s largest social media channel focused on science, nature, and sustainability.
