Tanah Merah was expanded with a new track to improve connectivity to Changi Airport — announced in 2014, expected by 2024. But in 2019, the Airport branch was hijacked by a TEL takeover plan, pushing improvements to the 2030s at earliest. The conversion promises direct city-to-airport train service, but hides costly station reconstruction, prolonged outright closures, and other complexities that have received little scrutiny. Did the answers need to be this complicated — and without transparency, how would we ever know?
