Plans
Plans for Bus Service 984 were revealed to the media on 8 June 2025 by Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow. The route was one of eight services planned for the Brickland and Tengah areas due to be launched by end-2026, and would connect Brickland to Bukit Panjang and Jurong East MRT stations.
This new service number, 984, was revealed by Mr Siow on 10 August 2025 as part of a media engagement. A follow-up social media post on 9 October 2025 revealed that Service 984 would be operated by Tower Transit and would launch shortly.
On 26 October 2025, a social media post by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan (Minister for Foreign Affairs; MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC) featured a route map of Bus Service 984, presumably prepared by LTA. The map indicated that there were plans for Service 984 to serve Keat Hong Close, but this sector was omitted in the final route.

Back to Bus Services

Sigh,,,, This is similar to the case of 117. When Yishun and Sembawang were still under SMRT Buses back then, 117 plies Sembawang and Yishun and terminates at Punggol. SBS Transit operates the service and still does. What i am trying to say is a service can ply areas which are not operated by the operator running the service. So that means based on the following areas: Yishun, Sembawang, Bukit Batok, Jurong East, Tengah, will only be operated exclusively by TTS.
Looks like TTS really the favoured child among LTA 4 operators. New services like 870,871,872,984 new interchanges like Kallang and Chencharu, all mostly run by them especially since the areas they operate are still expanding like Yishun and Tengah.
Next time for example, just an example, got new service from Woodlands to Chencharu, sure will be run by TTS. or Boon Lay to Tengah, will be run by TTS. Cannot be run by SMRT Buses. Because TTS is very exclusive.
Decided y’all should get a heads up of the actual route of 984
Official route of 984 (subject to changes by LTA):
Gali Batu Ter – W’lands Rd – Senja Way/Rd – Bukit Panjang Rd – CCK Rd – Teck Whye Ave – CCK Ave 1 – CCK Way/Grove – CCK Ave 7/1/6 – Brickland Rd – Bukit Batok Rd – Jurong Town Hall Rd – Jurong East MRT – Jurong Town Hall Int
Hopefully this clears some stuff up while we wait for the official announcement from LTA. I don’t have any official source for this, this is just passed on information.
How unfortunate that it does not get to run along KJE and PIE. Now we have somewhat of a duplication with bus service 160 and 180.
Yeah agree with you.
Duplication route will laspe of withdraw of exisiting service.
984 will definitely pass by Tengah Boulevard (whole of it) in future. 301 will be merged with 947.
If Service 301 and Service 947 to merged, they should extends the Service 993 instead to cover the sector.
Thanks for the information but seriously really long hual without plying KJE/PIE. The LTA really need to review the route before introducing to public.
For Teck Whye and Brickland area, shall merge with Service 983M, Renumbered and transfer to Tower Transits as Service 984.
This route, if true, is too similar to 160. Unless, they intend to renumber 160 to 984 and shorten it to Gali Batu. And add more trips on 170X to make up the withdrawl of 160 from the causeway section.
Yesterday, one of the TTS MAN A22 spotted training along Brickland Rd and Jurong Town Hall Interchange, which appears that 984 likely to pass by Brickland Rd
Today (14sept), Sun.
I saw Tower Transits Bus Route Familiarsation along Bukit Panjang Ring Road turning Bukit Panjang Road. Likely Loop service at Bukit Panjang Station Exit A.
Looks like no more looping at Bukit Panjang (based on the leaks from WLTransit). I think better la. Bukit Panjang MRT/bus interchange area always jam like nobody business.
984:
Gali Batu Ter – Jurong Town Hall
Run by Tower Transit
Passes through Teck Whye & Tengah
Weird that they chose the 98x numbering if it starts in the BPJ area (which uses 97x)
Thought its from brickland? How come gali batu
I also thought it was from Brickland because of the 98x numbering… it seems what Jeffrey Siow meant by “pass through Bukit Panjang & Jurong East MRT” is correct… Gali Batu -> pass by BPJ MRT, pass by JE MRT -> JTH
They creating the x84 series from gali batu
If true, then got service 184 and 984
May I know is this the accurate update from LTA?
This isn’t the official announcement, but the info is accurate
Most likely this bus will exit into KJE from Senja Road, then come out from Toh Guan Road via PIE to service Jurong East residents
Thanks for sharing.
Perhaps, i had proposed this route to LTA for review before they introducing to the public.
Dont try to take credit for “proposing routes to LTA”
We know you have a history of suggesting weird routes that are not economically feasible
Keep the fantasy booking to yourself
Thanks
Firstly, this is just a sharing and not over here said about history. If you trying to hint me that you could do better then so be it. Just continue your action to others as well. THANKS!
