Changi Airport T5 Bus Interchange

Changi Airport T5 Bus Interchange (final name TBC) is an upcoming Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) to be built as part of the Ground Transportation Centre (GTC) at Changi Airport Terminal 5. The new terminal is due for completion in the mid-2030s.

Rail connections will be offered via Changi Terminal 5 MRT Station, which serves the Thomson-East Coast Line and Cross Island Line.

Changi Airport Terminal 5 Ground Transportation Centre

Terminal 5 is being built within the 1,080-hectare Changi East development, effectively doubling the size of the existing Changi Airport. It is designed with the flexibility to be built in phases, in tandem with travel demand growth.

In its first phase, Terminal 5 is being built to handle about 50 million passengers a year. This will allow Changi Airport to handle up to 140 million passengers a year, up from 90 million handled by the existing 4 passenger terminals.

At the ground breaking ceremony for Terminal 5 on 14 May 2025, Changi Airport Group mentioned that the GTC will be built next to Terminal 5, with train, bus, taxi and other transport services for travellers to connect to the rest of Singapore.

According to plans filed to the Building and Construction Authority, the project title for the T5 GTC is: “Proposed Terminal 5 GTC: Proposed Erection of 1 Block 4-Storey Integrated Transport Hub with 2 Mezzanines, Bus Interchange, Coach Facilities & 2 Blocks 3/4 Storey Multi-Storey Carparks, including Three Levels Basement (Comprising 2 Levels Basement Carpark, Underground MRT Station and Tunnels), Primary Landside Roadways and Other Ancillary Facilities on Lots 05121M (PT) and 05123V (PT) MK31 at Tanah Merah Coast Road (Changi Planning Area)”.

Its not feasible for public buses plying T1/T2/T3 to make a detour to T5. As you said public buses will need to ply ECP and Tanah Merah Coast Road to reach Changi Airport Terminal 5.

Why extend current buses when LTA has announced that MRT will also be extended to T5? MRT will definitely be faster than bus when travelling from T1/T2/T3 to T5. It has been announced that T5 will have a bus terminal also, but public buses that ply there should not make stops at T1/T2/T3 and vice versa.

If the new bus interchange allows for double deck buses, LTA should modify some units with luggage racks downstairs like in HK. It is unsafe to carry heavy luggage up the steps to the top deck. LTA should consider hydrogen bendy buses so that no one will fall down the stairs.

If this is the case and LTA doesnt plan to purchase bendy buses, does this mean once the A24 retires, 858 will get amended to this interchange and use double decker instead? Also if the airport buses no longer need to go to the basements, then electric buses may finally be able to be deployed. However i still hope LTA may consider purchasing some Bendies, airport services there are some people who alight after a few stop and not all the way then theres also certain intra town services and feeder services that bendies are more useful as some people alight after a few stop and dont go upstairs if a dd is deployed. Idk if this interchange is LTA decision or Changi Airport Group but i feel this may be an indirect call by LTA that there may not be any more bendy purchases in the future. They will likely just force dds on feeders that currently are high demand and the only problem then will be airport services, with this interchange it will probably solve that issue, which means theres an even lower chance LTA might get more bendies.

They strongly believed that 3 door DD is the answer to bendy… Trust me I drive many times 801 with 3 door DD and the vibes isn’t that same with bendy.Bendy most will camp at the articulatory cause its nearer to both centre and rear door but for 3 Doors DD the centre and rear is quite far and the aisle is not as flow compared to bendy

I would prefer if 858’s route was not touched. Who knows? Maybe there will be a new service that will ply from T5 to yishun/sembawang/woodlands?

If LTA is allowed to give feedback on the design of the new T5 bus interchange, then may the height ceiling will be raised and double decker bus can be used. But I think LTA is done with bendy buses. LTA has been buying hundreds of new EV buses, but the models announced are only single and double deckers.

Probably a replacement for the current changi airport bus terminal, then all buses will serve there and become bidirectional (apart from 36)

Hopefully Double Decker Busses can enter and all Changi Airport Svcs can be relocated here.
