Reinstatement of Service 170A & Suspension of Service 170

1 April 2022

The Singapore-Malaysia Land Border Crossing reopened on Friday, 1 April 2022. However, cross-border public bus services 160, 170, 170X and 950 have yet to resume, as the Public Transport Operators prepare to ramp up operations to support them.

Meanwhile, SBS Transit Bus Service 170 was suspended and replaced with Bus Service 170A, plying between Queen Street and Woodlands Train Checkpoint only. This was done presumably to help commuters identify that the route does not cross the border. These return trips from Woodlands Train Checkpoint to Queen Street were also renumbered as Service 170A.

Previously, Service 170A operated as alternate departures of Service 170. It was suspended between 19 May 2021 and 31 March 2022 during the pandemic, likely due to low demand.

I think they should just shorten 170 to Kranji MRT or at the very least Gali Batu Terminal since it totally duplicate DTL between Bt Panjang and Queen St and duplicate 960 and 961 between Kranji MRT and Upp Bt Timah.

I am confused, isn’t 170 not crossing the borders since MCO starts 2 years ago?
