Two new City Direct Bus Services will be launched on Q3 2016, running between estates of Buangkok, Sengkang and Hougang, and the Central Business District.
City Direct Bus Services provide an alternative travel option for commuters who work in the CBD. Operated by private bus operators using coaches, they provide a comfortable and affordable direct bus during peak hours to travel between home and work. The buses charge distance-based express bus fares, ranging from about $2-$2.50 per trip, which cost only slightly more than riding the train to work.
The Land Transport Authority released a statement on 15 April 2016 on its website, and has called for a tender, PT270 – City Direct Bus Services, to invite private bus operators to submit their cost proposals for the City Direct Bus Services. The tender will close on 10 May 2016 at 1600 hrs.
In addition to the two new bus services, City Direct Bus Service 651 is also being re-tendered as the existing contract will expire in August 2016. Bus 651 was awarded to ComfortDelgro Bus Ptd Ltd, running between Jurong West and the CBD. It was launched on 2 September 2013 as the first City Direct Bus Service.
The new bus services are expected to be numbered as 671 and 672, following the consecutive numbering system of the City Direct Bus Services.
