The Volvo B5RLE Hybrid Bus is rolling on the roads again, after a 5-month hiatus awaiting an extension of trial period.
SBS8002T made its reappearance on Ang Mo Kio Townlink Service 268 on Saturday morning (20 Feb 2016). The bus has been given a 6-month trial period, from 12 February to 28 August 2016, under the Road Traffic (Volvo Diesel Hybrid Bus Trial) (Exemption) Order 2016.
The bus was last seen on Service 143 on 10 September 2015, before the end date of its first trial period. Currently, SBS8002T is regularly deployed on Service 268 on a split-shift weekday duty.
The bus will be based in East district bus depots, and will be operate on different bus services from time to time. It is permitted, under the Road Traffic Order, to run the following services: 13, 13A, 21, 21A, 26, 29, 29A, 38, 45, 45A, 54, 63, 70, 70A, 70B, 70M, 73, 124, 130, 131, 131A, 135, 135A, 139, 145, 145A, 155, 155A, 162, 162M, 222, 222A, 265, 268, 268A, 269, 269A, 293, 410G or 410W.
This is the third hybrid bus model to be trialed in Singapore, following unsuccessful trials of one Zhongtong Sunny hybrid bus under SMRT and two Sunlong Hybrid buses under SBS Transit.
