(Defunct) SBS Transit Stadium Direct Services

Introduction:

SBS Transit introduced the Stadium Direct services from Friday, 23 December 2005, aimed at concert goers, football enthusiasts & food lovers. Operating after major events at Singapore Indoor Stadium and National Stadium, these four unidirectional bus services would provide a direct link to the HDB heartlands of Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Boon Lay & Tampines. The nearby Kallang Theatre and Kallang Leisure Park also benefited from the services.

Originally scheduled for three days of operation (23 Dec, Very A-Do Live in Singapore / 14 Jan, Stefanie Sun Live in Singapore / 24 Jan, Backstreet Boys “Never Gone Tour”), Stadium Direct services continued to operate regularly after various concerts and sporting events until their discontinuation, with the last day of service on Saturday, 17 April 2010.

Stadium Direct Services charged fares of $2.00 for Adults and $1.00 for Child/Student/Senior Citizens, regardless of ez-link or cash payment. E-stamps, transfer rebates and concessionary travel were not applicable on Stadium Direct Services.

Operational Details:

After major events, buses from each Stadium Direct route would pick up passengers simultaneously from the bus stop along Stadium Walk, outside Kallang Theatre, and departed once the bus is full. About two to three double deck buses per service would be deployed per route. Information posters would be placed at terminating interchanges and various en-route bus stops prior to various Stadium events, informing commuters that the service would be available.

Following the proposed demolition of the former National Stadium and road closures in the Stadium vicinity, all four Stadium Direct Services were formally discontinued on Wednesday, 1 September 2010. However, their last day of operation was on Saturday, 17 April 2010, after which the services were not activated again.

• Tampines Route: Stadium Walk (Opp S’pore Indoor Stadium) → Tampines Int
