SMRT trials Smart Coolers at Yishun Interchange

On 25 March 2017, SMRT introduced four Airbitat Smart Cooler units at Yishun Temporary Bus Interchange for a two-week trial which ceased on 8 April 2017.

The Airbitat Smart Cooler, developed by Innosparks, an ST Engineering subsidiary, touts energy-efficient and eco-friendly properties. They use 80 percent less energy than an average air conditioning unit, equivalent to $2.50 a day to run, and do not produce heat.

The four Airbitat Smart Cooler are located near the Passenger Service Office, with signs explaining the features of the coolers. Each refrigerator-sized cooler is connected to a water and electrical supply. A condensate pipe along the floor connects all the coolers, emptying into a drain behind the interchange building.

The coolers are touted to blow air as cool as 24 deg, able to cool an area of about 55 square metres and has a reach of 5 to 10 metres. An Airbitat unit costs $2.50 a day to run, while an air-conditioning unit with similar capacity costs about $12.50.

Three coolers are facing the passenger concourse, while the last unit is directed facing the Passenger Service Office for the benefit of Bus Captains outside the office.

Airbitat Smart Coolers were previously put on a six-month trial at the Singapore Zoo from 23 August 2016 to much fanfare. Four units were placed at the zoo’s ticketing area, and if successful, 80 to 100 units would be rolled out in the near future at “cool zones” within four of Mandai Park Holdings’ wildlife parks: the Singapore Zoo, River Safari, Night Safari and Jurong Bird Park.

This is about Yishun bus interchange, not the bus stop outside Sun Plaza.

I wish to bring to your attention that on 2 April 2017 (Sun) at about 7pm and 7.15pm, both bus drivers on 883 failed to stop at bus stop 58259 (opp Sun Plaza). I mange to see one bus plate at 7.15pm is 1350. I have flag for the bus however the bus drivers seems to be in daze and drove off without stopping to pick up passengers. Please educate your bus drivers to be on alert and make a point to stop briefly at each designated bus stop if they are not sure whether there are passengers to be pick up. In the end I have to take a cab as there was a heavy downpour.
