Transport Arrangements For Chinese New Year 2016

This article covers both the Chinatown Chinese New Year Official Light-Up and Opening Ceremony (Sat, 16 Jan 2016) and the Chinese New Year Countdown Celebrations (Sun, 7 Feb 2016).

On Sat, 16 Jan 2016, the operating hours of train services will be extended for the Chinatown Chinese New Year Light Up and Opening Ceremony. Multiple bus services will be diverted due to road closures along Eu Tong Sen Street and New Bridge Road.

On Chinese / Lunar New Year’s Eve (7 Feb 2015), there will be changes in the operating hours of selected bus services. Peak hour bus services will operate return trips in the early afternoon (instead of the evening), and night services will extend their operating hours, along with selected trunk services.

SBS Transit Chinatown Direct Bus Services During Lunar New Year Festive Period

SBS Transit Chinatown Direct bus services (CT8, CT18 & CT28) will operate on a special timetable during the Lunar New Year Festive Period, from 16 Jan 2016 to 7 Feb 2016. Chinatown Direct CT28, plying between Clementi and Chinatown, will run from 16 Jan 2016 to 7 Feb 2016.

All Chinatown Direct Services will not operate during the Chinese New Year Public Holiday period on 8 Feb 2016 & 9 Feb 2016.

Bus Route Diversions for Chinatown Chinese New Year Light Up Ceremony & Chinese New Year Countdown Celebration

• 16 Jan 2015 – 1400hrs – 2300hrs
  Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations Official Light-Up and Opening Ceremony
• 7 Feb 2015 – 1700hrs to 0300hrs on 8 Feb 2016
  Chinese New Year Countdown Celebration

A total of twenty (20) bus services (excluding route variants) are affected due to road and bus stop closures. Affected bus services will ply alternative routes or skip bus stops along their existing route during the diversion period.

Diversion Information:

• Eu Tong Sen Street group (Service 2, 12, 33, 54, 61, 63, 80, 124, 143, 145, 147, 166, 190, 197, 851, 961, 970, CT8, CT18, CT28) towards Clarke Quay/Upp Pickering St are diverted to ply Outram Rd, Chin Swee Rd and Havelock Rd, skipping Eu Tong Sen St. Service 143 will resume original routing along Clemenceau Ave instead of turning into Havelock Rd..
• New Bridge Road group (Service 2, 12, 33, 54, 63, 124, 143, 147, 190, 851, 961, 970, CT8, CT18, CT28 ) towards Outram Park are diverted to:
  – SBS Transit: Upp Pickering St, South Bridge Rd, Kreta Ayer Rd and resuming original routing
  – SMRT: Upp Pickering St, South Bridge Rd, Neil Rd, Clemenceau Ave and resuming original routing

Extended Train Operating Hours:

Train services on North-South, East-West, North-East, Circle and Downtown Lines, as well as the Bukit Panjang, Sengkang and Punggol LRTs, will be extended on 16 Jan 2016 for the Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations Official Light-Up and Opening Ceremony and 7 Feb 2016 for Lunar New Year Eve. Last LRT departure timings will allow passengers transferring from the last train at the transfer station. Additionally, SMRT train services will be extended on the night of 6 Feb 2016.
