Autonomous Shuttle suspended following accident near Punggol Plaza

The Punggol Autonomous Shuttle Service by Zig Driverless has been suspended following an accident on 17 January 2026.

A Zig Driverless Autonomous Vehicle was seen with its bumper dislodged along the service road outside Block 172, Edgedale Plains. According to 8world news, the vehicle was being driven autonomously when it detected an obstacle on the road. While the vehicle reacted to avoid the obstacle, the safety operator onboard took over manual operations of the vehicle, before the accident occurred.

Zig Driverless operates one of the 3 Autonomous Shuttle routes launched in Punggol, which have been made available for residents to try on an invitation basis since January 12. The said vehicle was not carrying any passengers at the point of accident.

It is also not known why the vehicle was in the service road, as the road is not part of its assigned route.

ComfortDelgro has since suspended the Autonomous Service for a full review of the incident.

Previously, the MooVita Autonomous Shuttle was also involved in an accident while operating the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Shuttle route. The vehicle was under manual operation by the safety operator and not driven autonomously at the time of the accident.

UPDATE: Operations of the Autonomous Service has resumed on 30 January 2026 (LTA Media Statement)

Honestly, it is driver fault or vehicle fault?

Most of the trainers lack of experience and also the understanding of the systems and operations. So it is just a matter of time more of these accidents will happen. Many of them thought it is just normal driving!!
