Limited-stop Peak Period Bus Services provide a direct connection to MRT Stations for estates farther away from transport nodes.
Launched under the Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme (BCEP), these routes operate only on weekday peak hours (except Public Holidays). Some are operated as loop services, while others are unidirectional services that operate forward and reverse trips during the morning and evening peak, respectively.
As of November 2025, these services are numbered from 451 onwards, to better distinguish these services from existing bus services.

Brief History
Express Feeder
At the launch of the Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme (BCEP) in July 2024, the Land Transport Authority announced the upcoming introduction of “Express Feeder” bus services.
These were initially defined as bus services that take more direct routes with fewer intermediate stops compared to existing feeder services, bringing residents to and from major transport nodes more quickly. These services were targeted at housing estates located farther away from major transport nodes and town centres, thereby reducing residents’ first-mile and last-mile commute times.
The suffix “X“ was used to denote these supplementary bus services from their parent bus service. Three such routes were launched (298X, 979X & 21X) — notably, only Service 298 was an existing feeder bus route, while Services 21 and 979 were trunk routes.
Limited-stop Peak Period Bus Services
In an October 2025 update on the BCEP, LTA switched the nomenclature of the services, completely dropping the term “Express Feeder”.
The definition for these services was updated, calling them limited-stop bus services which provide a direct connection to MRT Stations for estates farther away from transport nodes. These services were also assigned the 45x series of route numbers.
The new definition thus encompassed the three existing “Express Feeder” services 298X, 979X & 21X, which would be renumbered to Services 454, 455 & 456 respectively.
Fare History
When the first Express Feeder services were introduced as supplementary services, they charged fare schemes similar to their parent service. For example, since Service 298X was a variant of Feeder bus service 298, it charged distance-based fares capped at 3.2 km. Regular distance fares apply to Services 979X and 21X, which were variants of existing trunk bus services 979 and 21.
Post-renumbering, the 45x services charge regular distance-based fares.
Operating Hours:
Limited-stop Peak Period Bus Services operate on weekdays only (excluding public holidays). Unidirectional trips from housing estates to transport nodes are operated during the morning peak hours, while return trips are operated during the evening peak hours. For Loop services, the same route is operated in both the mornings and evenings.
Evening trips may be brought forward to the early afternoon on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve & Chinese New Year’s Eve, should these dates fall on a Weekday. Exact departure timings will be announced by the respective bus operators closer to the dates.
Fares:
These services charge regular distance-based fares.

Hopefully one of the future routes will be a “315X” that goes directly from Serangoon North Ave 1 / 4 / 5 to Serangoon MRT skipping Gardens. The current route is way too long.
that new service from Tengah to Jurong east might be bus 457 operated by TTS and is a faster alternative to 870.

The renumbering to 45X series opens up the possibility of having new express bus services that run along more than one normal bus route, and run along unique sectors that dont duplicate other bus routes.
Thereby opening up the possibility of more express bus services, that are more comparable to the MRT, and are able to be provided within months of planning, rather than having to wait around 14 years for the MRT to be ready.
