Service 872 provides direct connectivity for residents in Tengah to Chinese Garden MRT Station along Boon Lay Way, as well as other amenities along the route at Jurong East such as Yuhua Village Market and Food Centre, Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre and Yuhua Place.

In addition, it also directly connects housing estates along Jurong East Street 32 to Chinese Garden MRT Station while serving a new sector along Jurong East Street 31 previously not served by public buses.

This service is introduced under the LTA’s Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme (BCEP), a ~$900 million government scheme that funds the purchase of new buses, infrastructural improvements, and operating costs of new bus services between 2024–2032.

3 additional upcoming bus stops along Tengah Garden Avenue will be added to the route when ready, after the launch of the service on 10 August 2025.

Plans

On 12 April 2025, local Member of Parliament Dr. Amy Khor revealed in a social media post that a new trunk bus service between Tengah and Chinese Garden MRT Station is planned to commence in the 3rd Quarter of 2025.

During a People’s Association family event held Tengah Community Club on 8 June 2025, Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow revealed to the media that Service 872 is slated to start on 10 Aug 2025, along with other bus services planned for Tengah by end-2026. The routing of Service 872 was shared to social media the same night by Member of Parliament for Choa Chu Kang GRC Dr Choo Pei Ling.

In a social media post on 18 Jul 2025, Dr Choo Pei Ling updated the bus stops to be served by Service 872 upon its launch on 10 August 2025, along with the additional 3 bus stops along Tengah Garden Avenue to be added to the route at a later date.

On 20 July 2025, Member of Parliament for Jurong Central SMC, Xie Yao Quan (谢曜全), shared a route poster for Service 872 in a social media post. This version differed slightly from the official poster released by public transport operator Tower Transit on 23 July 2025, specifically in the descriptions of two bus stops along Tengah Garden Avenue.

In the MP’s version, Bus Stop 40501 was labeled as “Ch of St. Jude Thaddeus,” and Bus Stop 40509 as “Opp Pioneer Pr Sch.” In contrast, Tower Transit’s version listed these stops as “Blk 131D” for Bus Stop 40501 and “Opp Blk 131D” for Bus Stop 40509.

On the first day of operations, the bus stop pole for 40501 was listed as Ch of St. Jude Thaddeus, although other official sources such as the Tower Transit website, SimplyGo eGuide & LTA MyTransport.sg app had already reflected the updated description of Blk 131D.

The names used in the MP’s version referenced upcoming developments—the Church of St. Jude Thaddeus, expected to be completed in 2028, and Pioneer Primary School, projected to open in 2026.

Guys, just to describe the actual geography of Chinese Garden MRT station:

The bus stop opposite, have to walk a long distance from the MRT station to the bridge, then cross the bridge to the opposite side to take the bus at the bus stop right beside the bridge at the opposite side.

The walking distance is going to discourage people from taking bus 872 at the opposite side of Chinese Garden MRT station to take the Tengah.

It is not like Kranji MRT station, whereby even if cross the bridge the bridge is just next to the MRT station.

Therefore, would really help a lot if it can be the same bus stop board and alight to/from 872 at Chinese Garden MRT station, just like 170X at Kranji MRT station.

You can take 872 from Chinese Garden MRT to Tengah via loop at Jurong Street 32 without alighting at Jurong Street 32.
Between Chinese Garden MRT & Jurong Street 32 are short distance.
No need to walk the opposite of Chinese Garden MRT.

It would be better if this service extended to serve Boon Lay and Joo Koon.

it would be great if 872 routes straight to the highway and directly to Boon Lay Interchange, instead of going to Yuhua and to Chinese Garden…

I think we need to justify why there is a need for 872 to go directly to Boon Lay Interchange. There already are plans for service 174 to pass by Tengah town before going back to Boon Lay Interchange. Same for service 181… they will extend it from Jurong West Avenue 5 to Tengah Town and make it bi-directional. Of course now we are waiting for the main roads that connect to Tengah town to be ready, so patience is a virtue my friend.

ZBK Volgren was going to say that 872 must be kept as Tengah-Chinese Garden MRT and loop at JE st 32. 872 will not extended to Boon Lay or Joo Koon. It’s better for you and Jarold to have supplementary bus service 872M (Tengah-Chinese Garden MRT-JE St 32-Boon Lay-Joo Koon Int) but it’s waste of bus resources so no.
174 are going to amend inside Tengah and 181 are going to extend to Tengah but idk CCK comfirmed by ZBK Volgren.

Actually it’s possible to merge 872 and 240M because it’s the same direction confirmed by ZBK Volgren loop at Boon Lay MRT from/to Tengah.

Given practically every other current service in Tengah goes through BB and Jurong East, do we need another one? Would better if the service goes to wards CCK, BPJ and Woodlands.

As usual complaints from residents and PAP just won there by majority but little they knew it would be wiser to go somewhere North rather than West, All they think is connections to MRT and amenities.

Incredibly tone deaf reply from this self proclaimed senior bus captain John Joo Boh. Can you take a look at how crowded service 180 is during peak hours? We desperately need to offload the crowd going to Chinese Garden MRT and provide a connection to Jurong Primary School.

Yeah but at least make it loop somewhere…You can see many service is also crowded with the rising of populations so why not venture somewhere for the next new svc?872 is fine for me. I just merely state the facts to someone not the whole picture… And don’t stereotype me tone deaf cause I ain’t deaf!

Isn’t it already planned to loop at Jurong East Street 32? Don’t know what you are smoking to say that service 872 has to loop somewhere…

dude, if you want to talk abt looping at old Jurong West area, they got 49 to Lakeside. just give and take for those who live in Jurong East St 32 to have 872 and travel to Chinese Garden which is the best solution rather than having 333 which plys all the way to Toh Guan & quite a distance to travel to Jurong East MRT.

Another thing is best for Tengah residence is to travel direct to Chinese Garden rather than having 870 which is routing within Bukit Batok West area just to travel to Jurong East and its crowded. win-win situation

No, 333 doesn’t ply St 31. It serves JE Ave 1 & St 32 only, hence my suspicions
