Service 872 provides direct connectivity for residents in Tengah to Chinese Garden MRT Station along Boon Lay Way, as well as other amenities along the route at Jurong East such as Yuhua Village Market and Food Centre, Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre and Yuhua Place.

In addition, it also directly connects housing estates along Jurong East Street 32 to Chinese Garden MRT Station while serving a new sector along Jurong East Street 31 previously not served by public buses.

This service is introduced under the LTA’s Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme (BCEP), a ~$900 million government scheme that funds the purchase of new buses, infrastructural improvements, and operating costs of new bus services between 2024–2032.

3 additional upcoming bus stops along Tengah Garden Avenue will be added to the route when ready, after the launch of the service on 10 August 2025.

Plans

On 12 April 2025, local Member of Parliament Dr. Amy Khor revealed in a social media post that a new trunk bus service between Tengah and Chinese Garden MRT Station is planned to commence in the 3rd Quarter of 2025.

During a People’s Association family event held Tengah Community Club on 8 June 2025, Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow revealed to the media that Service 872 is slated to start on 10 Aug 2025, along with other bus services planned for Tengah by end-2026. The routing of Service 872 was shared to social media the same night by Member of Parliament for Choa Chu Kang GRC Dr Choo Pei Ling.

In a social media post on 18 Jul 2025, Dr Choo Pei Ling updated the bus stops to be served by Service 872 upon its launch on 10 August 2025, along with the additional 3 bus stops along Tengah Garden Avenue to be added to the route at a later date.

On 20 July 2025, Member of Parliament for Jurong Central SMC, Xie Yao Quan (谢曜全), shared a route poster for Service 872 in a social media post. This version differed slightly from the official poster released by public transport operator Tower Transit on 23 July 2025, specifically in the descriptions of two bus stops along Tengah Garden Avenue.

In the MP’s version, Bus Stop 40501 was labeled as “Ch of St. Jude Thaddeus,” and Bus Stop 40509 as “Opp Pioneer Pr Sch.” In contrast, Tower Transit’s version listed these stops as “Blk 131D” for Bus Stop 40501 and “Opp Blk 131D” for Bus Stop 40509.

On the first day of operations, the bus stop pole for 40501 was listed as Ch of St. Jude Thaddeus, although other official sources such as the Tower Transit website, SimplyGo eGuide & LTA MyTransport.sg app had already reflected the updated description of Blk 131D.

The names used in the MP’s version referenced upcoming developments—the Church of St. Jude Thaddeus, expected to be completed in 2028, and Pioneer Primary School, projected to open in 2026.

No. This is not true. SD only relatively full when travelling from jurong town hall road to chinese garden MRT. Load significantly lesser when plying jurong east street 32 (weekend so no load from jurong primary school). Fleet will likely remain status quo with 50% SD and 50% DD.

Please do not make baseless speculations when you do not see the full picture of how packed the bus is for the entire journey (rather than just a snapshot at Jurong Town Hall Road), thanks.

Yes we desperately need a new bus stop at Jurong East Street 31. Can we possibly look into this?

I think we could have one bus stop beside Jurong Softball Field, and another bus stop outside Blk 344.

As a resident of Blk 317, I think we can benefit from the addition of these bus stops. There is a shelter bridging Blk 344 to Blk 317, and my block has alot of residential units on each floor. As of now, it requires a fair bit of time to walk from Blk 347 bus stop or from Jurong polyclinic bus stop.

In addition, there is alot of activeSG users that make use of the football stadium and Jurong East swimming complex (mainly for the facilities such as badminton court) on evenings and weekends. The bus stop beside Jurong Softball Field will cater to these users.

Best to leave 174 as it is. 181 is a gd choice for tengah. So for currently running services that is best suited for extension to tengah for now are 171 and 181.

Why would leaving 174 unchanged be the best choice? Tengah is conveniently placed along the way, i think this convenience validates 174 amendment.

The most reliable link to LTA we have
He revealed that 174 171 & 181 are most likely to amend into Tengah. We trust him the most as his sources are the most reliable.
For reference, he also had prior info of 34/117 Punggol Coast Extension, exact routing of 104, 109 shortening, City Direct extensions to Suntec, Amendment of 248/M, Woodleigh ITH opening, new Tampines Feeder serving Tampines North to South (299), withdrawal of 870, exact routes to serve Woodleigh ITH & Punggol Coast ITH etc

All these leaked by him, many of these leaked even one entire month before LTA officially releases the news (248/M & 34/117 were leaked 6 entire months before the actual announcement)
This is why most of us trust his word that 174 & 181 are serving Tengah in the future.

Whatever the case, I hope he doesn’t get in trouble for that. 870 being withdrawn is quite unusual. 109 getting truncated to where? PCI?

Allegedly so, which I find the strangest since it’s Hougang sectors receive extremely high demand

109 to PCI is a disaster, hope they all consider to end at Pasir Ris instead.
