Bus Service 974 is a trunk service from Joo Koon, looping at Bukit Panjang MRT. The route enhances inter-town connectivity and provides Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang residents with access to existing bus services plying Nanyang Technological University and Jurong Industrial Estate. It will also enhance connectivity in the west by linking Bukit Panjang Station (Downtown Line) and Choa Chu Kang Station (North-South Line) to Boon Lay, Pioneer and Joo Koon Stations (East-West Line).
The route relieves end-to-end demand on Service 172 by providing an express bus corridor along the Kranji Expressway (KJE), offering faster journeys between Choa Chu Kang and Boon Lay, as well as complementing existing bus connections between Boon Lay and Joo Koon. Connecting directly to Joo Koon, the route will also benefit commuters travelling between the north of Singapore and industries at Joo Koon via train, reducing the need to transfer between the North South Line and East West Line at Jurong East.

- 2018 (08 Apr): Introduced between Upp Bt Timah Rd (Bukit Panjang MRT) and Joo Koon Int. Operated by Tower Transit under the Bulim Bus Package. Wheelchair accessible at launch.
- 2019 (05 Oct): Last bus timing from Choa Chu Kang Ave 4 (Opp Choa Chu Kang Stn) extended from 01:00 to 01:05
- 2021 (23 Jan): Amended to start from Joo Koon Int and loop at Upp Bt Timah Rd (Bukit Panjang MRT) with the closure of Bt Panjang Temp Bus Pk
- 2021 (29 May): Operations transferred to SBS Transit Ltd under the Jurong West Bus Package

I think the fleet of service 974 is going to follow service 114
There is one B9TL running on SBS Transit 974, with the traditional SBS Transit livery, and the original SBS Transit logo placement. Thought it was a cameo when I first saw it. Then I saw it again a few days later. Seems to be a permanent deployment. Really makes 974 no different than the other SBS Transit bus services in Joo Koon Bus Interchange and Jurong West area.
It’s such a waste that 974 is being transferred from Tower Transit to SBS Transit. In the Jurong industrial region where it’s all SBS Transit buses, having Tower Transit buses provides that something extra.
Man, I’m so going to miss the additional effort that Tower Transit puts into its buses, such as the perfume and the different bus captain uniform.
974 under Tower Transit has brought an additional bus operator to a place where there’s only SBS Transit operating regular bus services.
Soon, it will be back to just SBS Transit all over again.
To make things doubly confusing, it’s also a 97X series service under the wrong bus package.
At that point they should might as well renumber it.
From september 2024 it will be all smrt
I think Service 974 is under the Jurong West Bus Package and not Choa Chu Kang-Bt Panjang Bus Package. The bus starts and ends at Joo Koon Int and with the transfer to SBS Transit w.e.f 29 May 2021, it seems more likely that Service 974 is under Jurong West, similar to how Service 991 is under Choa Chu Kang-Bt Panjang Bus Package and not Bulim Bus Package.
Heard the feedback from tower transit that they have submitted the change of the runtime and will improve the frequency for service 974 wait for the official announcement from Tower Transit/LTA
