Bus Service 979X provides a faster connection for commuters travelling between Bukit Panjang and housing estates in Yew Tee, via Choa Chu Kang Crescent and Choa Chu Kang North 7. This limited-stop service, which operates only during weekday morning and evening peak hours and serves selected stops, is a quicker alternative to the regular Bus Service 979.

The service plies express between Bukit Panjang Int and Yew Tee MRT station along Choa Chu Kang Drive, via Woodlands Rd and KJE, with an additional stop served along Upp Bukit Timah Rd (Aft Bt Panjang Stn) on its return journey towards Bukit Panjang Int.

Express Feeder Services

Service 979X is the second bus service with the ‘X’ suffix introduced under the BCEP, launched in 2024. These services with the ‘X’ suffix (which LTA refers to as ‘express feeder’ bus services) are designed to benefit residential estates located farther from major transport nodes and town centres. They take more direct routes with fewer intermediate stops compared to their parent service.

Like its parent Service 979, Service 979X is classified as a trunk service, and thus charges regular distance fares.

I am the resident in this area , is good to have this express service run through but this bus service will make service 979 on super low demand especially on the north 7 and crescent during 979x in operation
No one will choose to take 979 in the peak hrs if the loop service is 5-10min in this area because most of the resident are relay on this service to downtown line in peak hours. Guessing 979X will be introduced double decker & most of to 979 will change to single deck during weekdays period
