Bus Service 992 serves new housing estates in Bukit Batok West and Tengah with direct links to Bukit Batok Bus Interchange & MRT Station, as well as other amenities such as Le Quest Shopping Mall and Bukit Batok Polyclinic along its route.
Introduced on Sunday, 24 September 2023, the route extends the former Feeder Service 944 which looped at Bukit Batok West Ave 6. Bus Service 992 loops at Plantation Crescent, serving the newly-opened housing estates of Plantation Acres and Plantation Grange in Tengah.
During Eves of Public Holidays, operating hours from Bukit Batok Int will be extended. Exact last bus hours are announced by Tower Transit closer to these dates.
Initial Announcement
Plans for the introduction of Bus Service 992 first emerged in July 2023, as mentioned within LTA Travel Guides outlining transportation options for residents of HDB Plantation Acres and HDB Plantation Grange. A minor revision was later published in lieu of the delayed opening of Plantation Crescent to September 2023 (initially August).
As a designated Transit Priority Corridor, Tengah Link will be designated solely for buses from 27 December 2023 (as per signage along Tengah Link). In the interim period from 27 August 2023, other motorists can also use Tengah Link via the left-in-left-out entrance and exit to Bukit Batok Road.
Interim Shuttle Service for Tengah Residents
With HDB Plantation Acres opened for residential occupation on 29 August 2023, an interim “Tengah Shuttle Bus” service was provided by the Housing & Development Board between 29 August–30 September 2023, prior to Bus Service 992’s launch. The route connected Plantation Acres with amenities in the nearby Bukit Batok West housing estates.
Residents of Plantation Acres began collecting their keys to their new houses on 29 August 2023. In the interim period prior to Bus Service 992’s launch, an interim “Tengah Shuttle Bus” service was provided by the Housing & Development Board. The route connected Plantation Acres with Blk 440 Bukit Batok West Ave 8 (for amenities such as an eating house & supermarket) and Bukit Batok MRT Station.
Additional Stop Served from Launch (Bus Stop 43781)
The LTA initially planned for Bus Service 992 to skip Bus Stop 43781 – Opp Blk 437A along Bukit Batok Road at launch, with the original bus service poster indicating it as a ‘future bus stop’. However, this was later revised to have Bus Service 992 serve this bus stop at Service 992’s time of launch, with updated posters issued to reflect the change.
According to a Facebook Post on 13 September 2023 by local Member of Parliament Dr. Amy Khor, Service 992 was intended to skip the bus stop until after the completion of a new Pedestrian Overhead Bridge in 2024, as construction of the overhead bridge necessitated relocating the bus stop further down the road and making it unsafe for Service 992 to make a right turn to Bukit Batok West Avenue 5. However, following feedback from affected residents, the bus stop relocation works would be minimised to allow Service 992 to serve Bus Stop 43781 at the time of launch.
Extension of Service 992 to Tengah Blvd
Also outlined in the earlier Travel Guides was a future extension of Bus Service 992. In December 2023 (tentative), Bus Service 992 will be extended to serve the Plantation Grange housing estate via newly-opened roads and serve a new bus stop along Tengah Boulevard (bus stop 40409).
These plans were elaborated upon in a Facebook Post by local Member of Parliament Dr. Amy Khor on 1 November 2023, with a non-stop express sector along Tengah Garden Avenue for Service 992 in the December 2023 extension. This was later announced to take effect from 24 December 2023.
July 2024 Extension & Additional Bus Stops
With the completion of new roads and housing developments within Tengah New Town, Service 992 was extended to Tengah Bus Interchange via Tengah Garden Walk and Tengah Drive in tandem with its opening on 21 July 2024. Short Trip Service 992A was also withdrawn on the same day.
At its extension to Tengah Int, 6 new bus stops were planned to be added to the route in the future. These are:
- Bus Stop 40429 – Blk 242, Tengah Garden Walk
(served from 28 Jul 2024) - Bus Stop 40439 – Opp Blk 236A, Tengah Garden Walk

Not a good idea to absorb into 944. Now residents of Tengah must take the bus one long U in Bukit Batok and waste extra travelling time instead of going direct? Same issue with 102 amendment in Sengkang West, too few bus services doing too many things.
992 is necessary because it serves a new estate
By the way, the Tengah Plantation station of the Jurong Region Line is quite short leh. Like suggesting that at least that stretch of road got height limit, and can only accommodate single decker buses.
That will be incredibly short sighted if true! All road infra created nowadays should default allow DD
The Tower Transit (bus operator of 992) press release indicated a little bit of 992’s future route amendment in their drawing.
With the Jurong Region Line in the picture, and if only single decker buses can run underneath Tengah Plantation MRT station, 992 could potentially be extended to Jurong West Avenue 3 and absorb 181 in the future, via the new roads in Tengah that are planned to open in the future.
I wish that 992 come more frequently as tengah estate seem like will have many people staying. Also hope to have buses going to gombak mrt station.
I suppose when Bricklands Station is up and running, it will link up service 992 there for residents of Tengah.
Bro’s wish was granted with 871
They can use the remaining sbs plate storage buses for this service. And i hope its under tower transit.
SBS a few of them for A&S if they get the night service contract including new service.Eventually will convert to PC/PD plate.
My gut feelings is that since 990 & 991 are both under SMRT, 992 has high chance being under the same arm 🤔
990 is under tower transit. 992 might also be under tower transit
Confirmed!
992 and 181 got potential to merge.
I rather they merge 172 and 992 and extend the bus service via Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 to Bukit Batok Road to Tengah. Have the service start at Boon Lay instead.
I beg to differ…. it does not make sense for 992 and 181 to merge…
What is the intention of this? To make a long trunk service that connects Boon Lay with Bukit Batok, while passing through Tengah town?
I do not think LTA will do this when they can route 174 through Tengah town instead of PIE
181 will be safe, but 944 is the one that will be merged with 992.
Please don’t disturb 174 🙁
I already have enough problems with this bus, having to travel from bt batok to cityhall for work. Only improvements for 174 pls ! Don’t make things worse !
