Why isn’t Fernvale having a direct connection to Woodlands for so many years even Punggol? LTA still say ” we have improved public transport over the years “, does lta care for newer areas like tengah, Punggol and fernvale? These 3 places connect to nearby places only and can’t go far places lor, is disappointing to stay at Fernvale and Punggol for years and yet very very small improvement only. I am just requesting a direct connection from like fernvale, Punggol towards the Central, bt timah, Woodlands, or a full day service to central? Is not that hard right? Why do they need to disagree with my opinion of introducing or extending buses where the fact it was needed?
85/86/102 -> 168/858 is the most effective for Fernvale. Fernvale is also near Opp Seletar Camp, which is one of the few bus-bus interchange hubs along a highway. In other cities with bus-bus interchanges locations, it is convenient, cheapest and the quickest way to serve passengers broadly and giving the most coverage. You can’t expect to have every route serve in front of your HDB block at Fernvale and take you to everywhere in Singapore.
Punggol also has 168 on TPE’s Punggol bus-bus interchange so technically it counts as Punggol to Woodlands Direct because it’s not a closed interchange.
Fernvale North already has enough bus services that connects to nearby NEL and NSL stations. Got 85, 86, 102, 103 and especially a loop service 374. But when will Fernvale Lane in Fernvale South be recognised? Especially residents of Block 403A to Block 405C. When the new service 104 came out, it doesn’t even stop near this area. Instead, they have to walk approx. 7 mins to the nearby bus stop (Blk 409) to take the bus to Buangkok. Now is also the same with 114. No changes. Only bus 163 has been serving Fernvale Lane to Lentor. When will they get a new loop service. There is only 3 Loop buses in Sengkang. And it actually needs more. Like 375, 376 looping at Fernvale Lane. Let’s be real, we know they got 50, 70, 103, 854 at Yio Chu Kang road bus stop (Opp Seletar Hills Est). But do any of this buses stops at nearby MRT stations? The closest one is actually Serangoon which is 20 MINS AWAY…. Even the Fernvale LRT is also 7 mins… We got Buangkok, Sengkang, & Yio Chu Kang that are nearby. But its still inconvenient due to the walking distance of an average of more than 5 mins. Not to mention that there is an empty field literally infront of Block 403A for 20 YEARS!! Why are we still being ignored for long?!! Totally disappointed dear LTA👎🏽 But what I would suggest is for LTA to consider implementing a loop service at Fernvale Lane. We already had a loop service before which was stopped before covid (163M). It’s time for a new loop service that can bring ease and direct connectivity to Sengkang.
Based on road infrastructure and bus stop locations, it is not feasible to have 104 directly have a bus stop near Opp Seletar Hills Est as it may obstruct traffic into Buangkok Drive. Rerouting that into Fernvale Lane also makes no sense because its route will be overlengthy (keep in mind that 104 takes a loop at Matilda)
70 Directly serves Yio Chu Kang MRT, the only walking distance concerned is crossing the road to Opp Seletar Hills Est. Then again, this stop is the most important to Blk 403A more than Fernvale Link because it’s served by high frequency bus routes towards Serangoon, which if you are travelling into the city, will be much quicker than waiting for 163 to Sengkang or Fernvale LRT at Fernvale Lane as its routing does take a slight detour into Ranggung LRT. This bus stop (Opp Seletar Hills Est) to Serangoon is the reason why 114 won’t stop here because Blk 459B is only served by 102, which you may tell, is the only bus route to serve that area of Fernvale.
As for Fernvale link to Sengkang, it may be difficult to implement due to the recent 163B extension to Lentor MRT. This is made mostly to divert Fernvale Passengers away from the NEL and onto the TEL. If your “375” or “376” is made to take people to Sengkang, keep in mind that it may not be effective for MRT Transfers due to the NEL overcrowding issue. And even though if “375” or “376” may be implemented, do keep in mind that its routing is not going to be direct to Sengkang to avoid duplication to the LRT, 163 and to even boost usage of the bus route, which may include serving Fernvale Link, Anchorvale Link and Compassvale link as these roads do not contain a bus service, which while it does help link Fernvale Drive to different schools at Sengkang, heading towards Sengkang Interchange can be very loopy as a result. The direct connectivity if in terms of Express Feeder from BCEP could be considered only after the land in front of 403A has been developed.
As for 114, a short-term solution would be to add a stop at Fernvale Link. That would require you to talk to your MP.
The explanations given focus on why individual routing ideas may not work, but they do not address the core issue — Sengkang has only 3 feeder bus services despite being a larger and denser town than Punggol and Pasir Ris, which each have 4.
The existing feeders (371, 372, 374) collectively provide only about 5 effective loops across Compassvale, Rivervale, Anchorvale and Fernvale. This is insufficient for a town of Sengkang’s size and helps explain why the LRT and services like 163 are consistently overcrowded.
Avoiding “duplication” with the LRT is no longer a valid planning assumption when the LRT itself is operating beyond comfortable capacity. Feeder buses are also meant for intra-town connectivity and resilience, not solely MRT transfer.
For Fernvale South (Fernvale Lane), a local loop connecting either to Sengkang Interchange via Anchorvale Link or to Buangkok Interchange would address a clear service gap without worsening NEL crowding. Buangkok Interchange, in particular, remains underutilised and could absorb this demand.
Regarding Service 104, the issue appears less about absolute infeasibility and more about design or prioritisation. Given the existing road reserve along Buangkok Drive, it would be helpful to clarify what specific technical constraint prevents a bus stop from being sited near Opp Seletar Hills Estate, especially when the service already provides a fast connection to Buangkok MRT.
If there were to be new routes in Fernvale, I would say existing routes such as 102A and 102B can be combined into an all day new service but instead of serving Aft/Bef Jalan Kayu (68011 and 68019) it enters Fernvale Link and loop at Seletar Camp (For TPE Interchange connectivity) at the time-being (Could be extended to serve newer development areas such as Chencharu via Springleaf MRT in the future, or even Punggol Coast via Seletar Link to give an express for Punggol Northshore routes to the TPE bus routes)
For a completely new route, I would say the line could be Buangkok to Ang Mo Kio, via Buangkok Drive, Fernvale Lane, YCK Road, CTE, ITE College, Mayflower MRT, AMK Ave 3 then AMK Interchange. This would bring a quicker route from Fernvale Lane to ITE and AMK compared to 50 and also a quicker alternative from Fernvale to Buangkok compared to 114 since it doesn’t enter Buangkok Crescent.
