Express 15: Clementi—Beauty World Shuttle Bus Service

Express 15, also known as the Clementi—Beauty World Shuttle Bus Service, is is an ad-hoc unidirectional route connecting Clementi and Beauty World stations with no intermediate stops.

The route will be activated to operate on 12 March, 14 March, as well as Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in March & April 2018, when shortened operating hours are implemented on the East West Line to facilitate more time for track maintenance and renewal work.

The Shuttle Bus Service serves just two MRT Stations:

• EW23 Clementi
• DT5  Beauty World

The Shuttle Bus Service will only operate on affected days in March & April.

These Days are as follows:

• 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30 & 31 March
• 1, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 & 29 April

• On days of Extended Early Closure (12 & 14 March),
  buses will operate from the start time of the extended early closure till the stipulated last bus timings below.
• On days of Early Closure (2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 & 31 March, 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 & 28 April)
  buses will operate from the start time of the early closure till the stipulated last bus timings below.
• On days of Late Opening (3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 & 31 March, 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 & 29 April),
  buses will operate from the stipulated first bus timings below till the start time of normal train operations.

This service is reflected as Bus Service 493 on the Bus Ticketing System.

History of Activation

March & April 2018:

To speed up implementation of the new CBTC signalling system, shortened operating hours were implemented on the East West Line between Pasir Ris—Tuas Link, and Tanah Merah—Changi Airport, across various Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays on March & April 2018, and additionally, Extended Early Closures on 12 & 14 March. A total of 35 East West Line stations were affected by the early train service end times and delayed train service start times.

Express 13 was introduced to provide commuters with faster connectivity from Clementi MRT station to Beauty World MRT station, where commuters can change for the Downtown Line. However, passengers are advised to check train services timings, as the shuttle bus service may not connect to the last train departing the station.

Bus Fares:

Charges regular distance fare based on the distance between MRT Stations by rail. Train, bus and hybrid concession passes are accepted, and distance fare rules apply.

The route is one of ten Shuttle Bus Services operating during periods of planned closure in March & April 2018, the other routes being:

Private Bus Operators (March 2018)

For the first time, Private Bus Operators (PBOs) were roped in to assist with the Shuttle Bus Services. For Express 15, on Extended Early Closure days (12 & 14 March 2018 only), Woodlands Transport Service Pte Ltd contributed 50 bus drivers as part of Task Force 50 (or TF50), which were roped in to assist with shuttle bus operations. Training and familiarization were carried out by SMRT, and the drivers were assigned to SMRT’s Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses for shuttle operations. These bus drivers were deployed on Express 15.

History:

• 2018 (22 Feb): Route announced
• 2018 (08 Mar): Reduced operating hours during Late Opening days
• 2018 (09 Mar): Fleet downgraded to Single Deck Buses
• 2018 (22 Mar): Extended operating days to Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays in April 2018. Frequency reduced to 20 – 25 mins from 18 – 20 mins
