Gek Poh MRT Station (JW1) is an elevated station located along the Jurong Region Line (JRL) Phase 1. It is built along Jurong West Street 75, near the junction with Jurong West Avenue 5 and Street 74, bringing rail connectivity to schools, residential developments, and community amenities in the area.

The station is in the vicinity of schools such as Pioneer Primary School, Westwood Primary School and One World International School (Nanyang Campus); community amenities such as Gek Poh Shopping Centre, Gek Poh Ville Community Centre and Victory Family Centre; and residential developments around Jurong West.

The station is targeted for completion and opening in Year 2027.

The opening was announced to be delayed by about one year in a Written Reply by Minister for Transport Ong Ye Kung to Parliamentary Question on Prioritising Early Completion of Jurong Region MRT Line on 1 Feb 2021, with COVID-19 cited as a reason.

Recently, Ms Foo Mee Har, the Member of Parliament of the Gek Poh District, shared the latest version of the artist impression of JW1 Gek Poh Station on her personal Facebook page. The artist impression shows that the direction of the escalators, stairs and elevator doors have been changed to face the two bus stops next to Gek Poh Shopping Centre. Meanwhile, the section that connects to the adjacent residential area may have another set of escalators and stairs that face the intersection of Jurong West Avenue 5 and Jurong West Street 75. It would be good if the section that connects to Gek Poh Shopping Centre can also have another set of escalators and stairs that face the intersection of Jurong West Avenue 5 and Jurong West Street 75. Unfortunately, due to space constraints, this cannot be done.

From the artist impression, it seems that the grass patch at the Gek Poh Shopping Centre side will remain, whereas it is residential apartment side where the outermost layer of grass patch will make way for a lane of road, so that the existing west-bound direction of the road can vacate the northernmost lane to make way for the MRT Jurong Region Line viaducts. Meanwhile, the artist impression shows that there will be a layer of grass patch beside the road at the residential apartment side, this is where the pedestrian path currently is. The existing running/cycling tracks is probably where the escalator will be located. I believe the grass patch at the residential apartment side in the artist impression will actually be the pedestrian path in the actual product, like the presentation path at MRT Pioneer station, after the MRT Jurong Region Line is constructed in 2026.

I have analysed the coordinates. It is two lanes that will be taken, not just one lane.

One of the controversial part of the Jurong Region Line is the part regarding Pioneer Primary School. As I analysed the coordinates, I realised, the Jurong Region Line will cut through the school carpark and run along the bushes, and then cut through the soccer field.

Whereas the carpark section will not be affected, the soccer field will definitely will be replaced.

If I’m not wrong, the soccer field of the former Pioneer Secondary School is still under MOE ownership and is not part of the contract of the international school that now occupies Pioneer Secondary School premise. I guess part of that soccer field will be repurposed as the replacement soccer field of Pioneer Primary School, while the parade square may also have some slight adjustments.

In other words, Pioneer Primary School boundary will change.

Meanwhile, the alignment along those HDB blocks, although close, are still more than 2 metres away from the Jurong Region Line, which fulfils the requirement of Rapid Transit Systems according to the LTA guideline.
