While not served by any MRT station in the immediate vicinity, the nearest station Outram Park MRT StationĀ along theĀ East West LineĀ andĀ North East Line, which is about 600 metres away (roughly a 10-minute walk).

TheĀ terminal has a single vehicular concourse area with 29 bus parking lots (25 angled lots and 4 parallel lots for articulated buses), and separate vehicular entrances and exits leading to Spooner Road. The passenger concourse features four sawtooth berths for boarding activities and a linear alighting berth. Each berth has is equipped metal queue lines, priority seat benches and a wheelchair waiting area.

History:

New Bridge Road Bus Terminal was built in the 1970s to serve the large number of bus services terminating at the south end of New Bridge Road. It replaced roadside bus terminals of the past, which frequently caused congestion on the roads. Most and eventually all bus services were movedĀ from their roadside terminating points to new terminal.

The terminal continued hosing a large number of bus routes until theĀ construction of theĀ East West LineĀ in the early 1990s (and later North East Line in 2003). Many bus routes between New Bridge Road and the housing estates were withdrawn or amended away from New Bridge Road under various bus rationalization schemes to prevent wasteful duplication of the MRT lines, leaving behind all but a handful of trunk routes.

New Bridge Road Bus Terminal was relocated to Kampong Bahru Bus TerminalĀ on 18 March 2018, which was built on land formerly owned by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTM), the Malaysian national railway operator. The old New Bridge Road Bus Terminal, along with anĀ adjacent surface car park, was cleared to build a new surgery centre, expandingĀ existing infrastructure atĀ Singapore General Hospital (SGH). Called theĀ Elective Care Centre, the new facilityĀ is scheduled to be ready by 2022, adding more operating theatres, specialist outpatient clinics and inpatient facilities to SGH.

The opening of Kampong Bahru Bus Terminal (originally announced for end-2017) was delayed and finally opened on 10 March 2018, with all existing bus services at New Bridge Road Bus Terminal relocated.

I think we should have a feeder service that connects Kampong Bahru bus terminal with Spottiswoode Park (while plying through SGH). This will allow enhanced connectivity to residents living there (and also connect to Cantonment MRT for the upcoming circle line extension). The feeder service can be designated as a 39x series (ie. Service 391)
