Bus Service 117‘s route will be amended from Sunday, 24 April 2016. It will serve four pairs of bus stops along West Camp Road, instead of its current express sector along Seletar West Link when travelling between Yishun Avenue 1 and Seletar Aerospace Drive. As such, the route of Bus 117 will be identical to Bus 103 between Jalan Kayu and Yishun Avenue 1.
First introduced on 20 December 2015 under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP), Bus 117 has seen low ridership for the past four months. The bus service is meant to provide additional connections between Seletar and estates of Punggol and Yishun, on top of intertown connections. It is unknown why the initial bus route was planned to skip West Camp Road and use Seletar West Link as an express sector.
Currently, many commuters who go to work along West Camp Road are unable to travel by Bus 117, and continue relying on Bus Service 103. Bus 103 tends to be crowded during peak hours, and has received a few double-deckers to cater to crowds since the introduction of Bus 117.
Ridership for the two bus services is expected to grow in the near future when Seletar Aerospace Park is completed by 2018.
