Service 117 is a alternative travel option for passengers who utilize Service 85 to travel between Punggol and Yishun towns, skipping the Sengkang residential areas entirely.
It is the first service to serve new bus stops for upcoming developments along Yishun Avenue 1, connecting future residents to Khatib MRT.
The service plies Yishun Avenue 2 and Canberra Link, providing a faster and shorter travel option between Yishun and Sembawang MRT stations as compared to Services 858 and 859.
Service 117 is also the first SBS Transit Bus Service to serve Sembawang Bus Interchange, which was previously fully served by SMRT Buses.
On 24 Apr 2016, Bus Service 117 was amended to ply West Camp Rd, calling at 4 additional sets of bus stops including the former Seletar Airport terminal building. The express sector along Seletar West Link was omitted This enhanced connectivity for Seletar Aerospace Park commuters to Sembawang and Punggol.

Yes agree on increasing the frequency of bus 117 as it is the only bus that serves the many new and upcoming HDB and condo developments along Yishun Ave 1.
One of the few bus services in which both termini it serves are not run by the same operator as the service!
Dear officer,
Can we increase frequency of the bus 117? We are staying in Skies Miltonia. We need to wait for the bus ~12-15 minutes during non-peak hours. Our kids need to take this bus after school.
Even though we have free shuttle bus, but the free shuttle bus has tea break time and is 30 minutes interval.
