As part of the BPLRT renewal programme, intensive testing of the new CBTC signalling system has been ongoing during engineering hours over the past few months.
In the next phase, the system will undergo rigorous and comprehensive testing to ensure proper integration with the new and upgraded LRVs.
To facilitate this, full-day closures will take place on Sunday, 31 August and Sunday, 21 September 2025. These closures will provide an extended window for continuous testing under simulated operating conditions, as part of the next phase of systems integration testing.
In addition to the Full Day closures above, BPLRT train services are also currently affected by:
- Daily early closures at 11:30pm since 13 January 2019 to facilitate engineering works
- (Extended) Early Closures at 10:30pm on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays from 14 November 2024 to 31 October 2025, except Public Holidays to facilitate upgrading of the BPLRT signalling system & testing of the new and retrofitted Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) on the BPLRT network

Sigh. With no Svc A shuttle bus in sight for the Aug & Sep 2025 closures… it’s very inconvenient.
So, what do you guys think?
Should probably just go ahead and scrap the whole system…its still going to be unreliable regardless what they do…Extend the JRL from Choa Chu Kang to Bukit Panjang and use buses to cover the sectors served by the BPLRT. If must have a lrt, is it possible to do a underground one, that is if theres even enough space below ground there…
Best is to award BPJ LRT to OneRailSG(SBST/RATP Dev)..
and what is your rationale for doing this? if anything, the full sunday closure is not related to SMRT. So I dont see why you are suggesting the LRT network should be awarded to someone else. It is too out of the blue.
For now I think SBST is doing better than SMRT.
