The Seletar Line (tentative name) is a proposed Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Singapore currently undergoing feasibility studies.
Engineering studies for the Seletar Line (Phase 1) are planned to commence in 2026.
Planning origins
The line was first identified in the Land Transport Master Plan 2040 (LTMP 2040) as part of efforts to improve rail connectivity in the northern and north-eastern regions of Singapore. The LTMP 2040, unveiled in 2019, proposed a new MRT line to serve developing and established towns in the north and northeast regions, which lacked direct access to the existing rail network.
According to the LTMP 2040, the line is intended to enhance connectivity for more than 400,000 households, providing travel time savings of up to 40 minutes for commuters travelling from the northern region to the city centre.
At the 2025 Committee of Supply (COS) Debate, this proposed new line was now given the indicative name ‘Seletar Line’.
Feasibility Studies
The LTA is still conducting feasibility studies for the Seletar Line to determine the line’s demand, alignment, station locations, and implementation timeline. These studies also consider existing and future land use developments along the corridor.
On 4 November 2025, Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow provided an update in Parliament, stating that an announcement on the progress of the Seletar Line’s feasibility studies would likely be made “sometime across the turn of the year” or during the upcoming Committee of Supply (COS) debate.
In the Ministry of Transport (MOT) COS Debate 2026, an update was provided that feasibility studies will continue to be conducted for subsequent phases of the Seletar Line.
Engineering Studies
Engineering studies for the Seletar Line are slated to commence in 2026, as part of an update in the MOT COS Debate 2026.
The initial focus for the Seletar Line will be to provide more travel options for residents in the Northeast. A corridor serving the Sengkang West and Serangoon North areas will be explored, with possible connections to the Cross Island Line and Circle Line.
Potential Alignment
While the alignment has yet to be finalised, possible catchment areas identified by LTA for study include:
- Woodlands
- Sembawang
- Sengkang
- Serangoon North
- Whampoa
- Kallang
- Greater Southern Waterfront
In addition, LTA has also preliminarily assessed that the Seletar Line and another potential rail line (tentatively called the Tengah Line), could meet at the Greater Southern Waterfront. Feasibility studies will also consider the possibility of linking both lines into a single line.
If feasibility studies confirm that the Seletar & Tengah Lines (or a merged line) are feasible, they will be completed in phases from the 2040s.
