The Seletar Line (tentative name) is a future rapid transit line currently under feasibility studies.
Land Transport Master Plan 2040
In 2019, the Land Transport Master Plan 2040 (LTMP 2040) was launched by the Land Transport Authority (LTA). As part of the plan, the Seletar Line (then unnamed & referred to as a “proposed new line”), was identified for feasibility studies.
This line will supplement the transport network in the north and northeast regions to serve new and growing developments as well as existing towns which currently do not enjoy direct access to the rail network, as mentioned by LTA in its Master Plan.
The feasibility study for the line includes assessing the demand, alignment, station locations and implementation timeline of the line, taking into account existing and future land use developments along the corridor.
Benefits of the Seletar Line highlighted in the Master Plan includes serving more than 400,000 households, with commuters in the northern region of Singapore enjoying time savings of up to 40 minutes to the city centre.
Committee of Supply Debate 2025
As part of the Ministry of Transport’s Committee of Supply (COS) Debate 2025, more details for the Seletar Line were announced.
The was announced The tentative name of “Seletar Line” was revealed for the “proposed new line” as part of LTMP 2040, with an update that feasibility studies were ongoing.
In addition, LTA has also preliminarily assessed that the Seletar Line and another potential rail line (tentatively called the Tengah Line), could meet at the Greater Southern Waterfront. Feasibility studies will also consider the possibility of linking both lines into a single line.
