Lmao it’s not wasted. It’s meant for a direct connection for Fernvale/buangkok to yck mrt

Why this bus didn’t follow the 50 and then 72 route instead? Like 50,72,88 and 159 are always so crowded during peak hours and especially the key areas at ite cc and nyp

I tot it will go via YCK/CTE/Amk Ave 5 instead of following SV86.

Someone on YouTube says it makes no sense to duplicate 50, but we all know 50 is just FTD every morning, so it will have to wait. I mean, 118 also had this problem for years now, and they just keep pumping for buses.

But the extended 114 route does make sense. Serving fernvale was honestly a surprise… So this is the route that would serve seletar mall, as stated by AMKTC back then. Plus, I doubt the fleet add would be DDs. Most probably SDs. From where, idk…

Depot wise, cross share with Seletar? Idk… Sengkang west currently houses > 600 buses, far exceeded the stated cap of 500.

The new 114 extension also looks like it complements 163 and the newly extended 163B to lentor MRT. Could it be a potential factor that demand in fernvale has increased to the point where they need 2 routes to connect them to MRT lines outside of NEL?

I think 114 It is a good move when Seletar Mall is also another mall nearby to Buangkok Crescent and through Linking Buangkok Drive, bringing closer connectivity and future connections towards the proposed Seletar LRT Line (as well as dispersing crowds from Sengkang to Fernvale). What I’m surprised, however, is that they didn’t add a bus stop in Fernvale Link altho I won’t think it will make much of a difference. Additionally the extension to YCK could also link Buangkok Crescent to NSL, which may or may not diverse the mrt crowds of the NEL but it may be useful if you are going to places like Toa Payoh or Yishun.

The only concern is that whether Buangkok Crescent and Buangkok Link Residents would mind crossing the road to get back home but it does make sense to have serve different directions to avoid getting on the wrong direction.

Hoping for a 114m in the future as well – There is just so many alternatives this route can also use, such as linking towards Lentor MRT for the TEL, skipping Fernvale if the tap-in tap-out data suggests the demand between YCK MRT to Buangkok Link and Buangkok MRT (or entirely skip Buangkok crescent and Fernvale) are high.
