The Depot

Ang Mo Kio Bus Depot (commonly abbreviated AMDEP) was a former bus depot located along Ang Mo Kio Street 63, within the Yio Chu Kang industrial estate just north of Yio Chu Kang MRT Station and Yio Chu Kang Sports Hall. The depot formerly supported bus operations mainly around Bishan, Ang Mo Kio, Yio Chu Kang, New Bridge Road and Shenton Way.

The main depot building contained offices and a canteen, and was attached to a sheltered bus workshop for repairs and maintenance works. Other bus facilities include refuelling points and a bus wash. Vehicles entered and exited the depot via Ang Mo Kio Street 63. Most of the depot’s land area is used for bus parking, with a total of 438 parking lots.

SBS Transit’s Bus Operation Control Center (BOCC) for the East District was also formerly located at AMDEP. This BOCC oversaw buses based out of Bedok North Depot and Braddell Bus Park.

In December 2016, the nearby Seletar Bus Depot was used as a parking facility for buses based out of AMDEP. SBS Transit eventually secured the Seletar Bus Package in 2017 and continued to occupy Seletar Bus Depot until the closure of AMDEP.

Historical Background

Ang Mo Kio Depot was constructed by Singapore Bus Services (SBS) and began operations in 1978. It occupied 63,955 sq m of land within the Yio Chu Kang industrial estate, and cost around S$6 million to build. Up till its closure in 2025, it had been one of the oldest bus depots in Singapore.

SBS Transit held the land tenure lasting 26 years from 1 March 1994 (as per 2018 SBS Transit Annual Report). In the 2019 SBS Transit Annual Report, the land lease was extended by 4 years and 9 months to 30 years and 9 months, ending 1 December 2024.

In September 2024, ComfortDelGro called for a tender (reference number TQ24A1039) for Proposed Delineation & Demolition Works to Ang Mo Kio Bus Depot, signalling the planned future demolition of the bus depot.

Ceasing of Operations

The last day of bus operations at AMDEP was on 3 January 2025. Buses that were garaging at AMDEP were transferred to other depots, mainly Hougang Bus Depot and the newly-opened Sengkang West Bus Depot, which commenced garaging operations on 4 January 2025.

Braddell bus park parking capacity is limited to 300 buses only.Unless CDE move to somewhere else and that’s why they need some parking lots at Sengkang West too,Worse to worse some will park at Hougang depot.

I feel Bishan-Toa Payoh service will temporarily use Hougang Depot until a new location for the new depot is finalised.Saint Michael’s service will all be based at Braddell Bus Park while majority of Toa Payoh and all Bishan service(50/52/54/56/410) will be based at Hougang Depot.Sengkang-Hougang service will move to Sengkang West depot and Serangoon-Eunos svc will stay at Hougang until Kim Chuan is ready.

Honestly I don’t think Swdep can intake many more service after they start operations,Most to most only 2 svc.Seletar probably can intake 2 or 3 more service and Braddell the most St Mike and Toa Payoh feeders to stay there..Bishan svc might move to Hougang Depot temporarily until LTA find a suitable location for the new depot…Hgdep leasing is up to 2027 the most and Kim Chuan will be ready by end 2025.
