BAS.MY Johor Bahru

BAS.MY Johor Bahru is the rebranded stage bus network for Johor Bahru, launched on 1 October 2025.

The current network is an evolution of the older myBAS Johor Bahru network, launched in March 2022. This scheme consolidated existing stage bus services under a single identity, introducing improvements such as more regular bus intervals, cashless payment via Manjalink card/app or Visa/Mastercard, concession passes, and real-time bus tracking through the LUGO app.

The revamped BAS.MY Johor Bahru network will continue to be operated by Handal Indah Sdn. Bhd.

Bus Service List (effective 30 September 2025)

Although the BAS.MY Johor Bahru was officially launched on 1 October 2025, bus route changes took effect from 30 September 2025.

Bus routes in Johor Bahru carry the J- prefix. The majority of bus routes remain unchanged from their former T- and F-prefixed versions.

BAS.MY Framework

Johor Bahru local bus services, under the BAS.MY Johor Bahru brand, is funded by the Federal government under the Stage Bus Service Transportation (SBST) programme. First introduced in 2015, SBST was designed to address the long-standing weaknesses of Malaysia’s stage bus industry by stabilising operator income and ensuring consistent service quality. Using public funding, the programme supports expanded routes, higher service frequencies, and the renewal of bus fleets.

The scheme adopts a gross-cost contracting model, where the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) assumes responsibility for network planning, operating costs, and fare revenue. Operators are compensated based on a Vehicle Operating Cost (VOC) per kilometre rate and must meet defined service performance standards. This structure shifts financial risk away from operators and ensures that commuter needs—rather than operator profitability—drive network planning.

The SBST scheme thus marks a departure from the conventional farebox-reliant model, where bus operators struggled to sustain services on socially necessary but commercially unviable local bus routes. Recognising that public transport is essential for affordability and mobility, the new framework pays bus operators to run specified routes at set frequencies, while fare revenue is redirected to the government. This approach is conceptually similar to Singapore’s Bus Contracting Model, where the Land Transport Authority (LTA) tenders routes to operators and retains fare revenue.

BAS.MY Implementation in Johor Bahru

In Johor Bahru, Causeway Link was appointed in 2018 as the lead operator under the myBAS Johor Bahru network. Services were launched in phases from March to December 2022, using a standard white livery with route prefixes distinguishing trunk services (“T”) from feeders (“F”). Improvements included published bus schedules, cashless payment (via the Manjalink card), a mobile app with live bus timings (LUGO app), and a monthly pass for unlimited rides priced at RM30 (effective Nov 2025; previously RM50).

In September 2024, the myBAS identity was rebranded nationwide as BAS.MY, in tandem with the launch of a similar network in Negeri Sembilan. With this rebrand came more requirements:  contracted operators were to procure new buses within six months, standardise fleet livery to pink, and install CCTV cameras and GPS tracking.

On 30 September 2025, Johor Bahru officially transitioned to the BAS.MY branding.

Funding & Ridership

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said on 3 November 2025 that the Johor Baru SBST programme recorded its highest ridership that year, at 940,000 passengers. The Federal government would also invest RM134.94 million over two years, or RM67.47 million per year, to continue providing the bus services.

I think SG bus operators should chip in by providing more cross-border services , like a express bus service to the industrial area of CBD. (I know you would say 170 does that job, so the bus should go deeper into CBD and mabye teriminate at Shenton Way Bus terminal

The BAS.MY is the Malaysia equivalent of Singapore’s SG❤️Bus.

Basically, previously different states like Johor, Seremban, etc, have their own livery, despite the public buses all under mybas and already funded by the federal government.

Then now, the rebrand is essentially to adopt the same livery throughout Malaysia. Last time and now all federal government funded.

Essentially, just like blue colour is for Bas Pekerja, and yellow colour is for Bas Sekolah, now the approach is pink colour for Bas MY (public bus).

Eventually, I think even RapidKL buses and RapidPenang will also be rebranded to BAS.MY, since also federal government funded.

Why the rebrand? Is it because change from state government funding to federal government funding?

Bring back T14. This bus is very popular even thou it is a peak hour service. As it is withdrawn and replaced by J10 it is basically 227 by bus maju route. Need to go to aeon tebrau and toppen by the dangerous road frequent by thefts.

Hopefully this would mean more frequent bus service at Mid Valley South Key.
