Express Service 502B was a route variant of Express 502, connecting residential estates around Jurong East with the City areas, such as Orchard, Bras Basah and Marina Centre. It incorporated an express sector from Boon Lay Way to Orchard Road via Holland and Tanglin Road, and from Scotts Road to Boon Lay Way via Stevens Road, Whitley Road, Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) & Toh Tuck Avenue. Two trips were operated on weekday mornings, while three trips were operated on weekday evenings, except on public holidays.
The route benefitted residents in the West with a fast connection to the City areas without having to rely on the MRT network. Express 502B operated in place of Express 502 during peak hours on weekdays, with its service area in Jurong West covered by Express 502A simultaneously. The splitting of full trips of Express 502 into 502A & 502B was aimed at improving the overall reliability of the service and improving travel time during peak periods.
Express 502B was discontinued from Monday, 26 April 2010, when Express 502 was extended to serve the new developments in the Bayfront and Marina Bay areas. At the same time, special departures of Express 502 were introduced from Jurong West Ave 1 (Blk 538) during morning peak hours on weekdays, replacing part of the morning peak route for Express 502B. Its last day of operation was on Friday, 23 April 2010.
