Service 84 links New Punggol Road and surrounding residential areas in Northshore with Punggol Interchange and MRT Station. Small residential communities around Punggol Seventeenth and Twenty-fourth Avenue also benefit from this route. It is also presently the sole bus service to New Punggol Road End, serving the Punggol Point jetty, Punggol Ranch and The Punggol Settlement. Demand for this service is high during the weekends and on public holidays.
Following the closure of a section Punggol Road in August 2018, Service 84 was amended to serve Sentul Crescent, Sumang Link and Punggol Way via Sam Kee, Nibong, Samudera and Punggol Point LRT stations.
In December 2023, Service 84 was amended to loop at New Punggol Road, serving new / under-construction housing estates such as Punggol Point Woods, Punggol Point Crown and Punggol Point Cove. Two of the new bus stops served by Service 84 were featured in the Travel Guide for Punggol Point Woods housing estate residents released by the Land Transport Authority in September 2023.
The section of Punggol Road End (Old Punggol Road) skipped by Service 84 is slated to be converted into a heritage trail.
Division of Service
On 23 June 2024, Service 84 was divided into two variants: 84G (Green, for the clockwise route) and 84W (White, for the anti-clockwise route).
Service 84G operates clockwise via Sentul Crescent, Punggol Way, Northshore Drive (Samudera LRT), and New Punggol Road towards Punggol Temporary Interchange; while
Service 84W operates anti-clockwise via New Punggol Road, Northshore Drive (Samudera LRT), Punggol Way and Sentul Crescent, towards Punggol Temporary Interchange.
Trivia
When Service 84 was taken over by Go-Ahead Singapore on 04 Sep 2016, it was incorrectly declared as a wheelchair-accessible bus service based on the Service 84 Service Guide printed by the operator. It was officially declared a wheelchair-accessible bus service from 16 Jul 2017.
SBS Transit’s sole Volvo B10BLE Demonstrator unit, SBS1688K, used to operate on this service until its retirement in Jan 2015.

- 2011 (03 Sep): Introduced between Punggol Int and Punggol Road End (Loop), replacing the deleted sectors of Service 82
- 2016 (04 Sep): Operations transferred to Go Ahead Loyang Pte Ltd from SBS Transit Ltd.
- 2017 (16 Jul): Designated wheelchair-accessible bus service (WAB)
- 2018 (26 Aug): Amended to ply Punggol Dr, Sentul Cres, Sumang Lk and Punggol Way with the partial closure of Punggol Rd
- 2020 (23 Feb): Amended to ply Northshore Cres and Northshore Dr with the partial closure of Punggol Way and Punggol Rd
- 2023 (17 Dec): Amended to loop at New Punggol Road via a longer section of Northshore Dr
- 2024 (23 Jun): Amended to a bidirectional trunk service to serve an additional stretch of New Punggol Road, with the clockwise route via Sentul Cres numbered Service 84G and the anti-clockwise route via New Punggol Rd numbered as Service 84W.

Why does bus 84 in the current version loop 3 times?
In future, bus 84 might serve Teck Lee LRT
I can foresee 84 being merged with 403, and become Punggol North – Pasir Ris instead via Pasir Ris Park, and also serve Punggol Place.
84 can extend to start at Compassvale Int and give to SBST in exchange for 117.
I like the idea of extending 84 to compassvale int.
