New CRRC Double-Decker Bus spotted in Singapore

A new electric double-decker bus produced by CRRC and bodied by Gemilang has been spotted in Singapore today (06 Oct 2024).

The bus is likely destined for trials with the Land Transport Authority (LTA), in line with its vision of a 100% cleaner energy public bus fleet by 2040. The bus features 3-doors and 2-staircases, following the likes of 100 Three-door Double-Decker Buses procured by LTA in 2019.

In recent years, there has been a notable increase in electric trial buses offered to the LTA by various manufacturers. This reflects a shift from predominantly single-deck electric buses to a growing trend of electric double-deck models, including the CRRC bus and the Zhongtong LCK6126EVGS. Additionally, mirrorless buses—utilizing camera-based mirror systems—are gaining traction, similar to the latest orders from LTA for  BYD and Zhongtong buses under Contract PT601, highlighting innovative advancements in bus design and technology.

The bus is also likely to be featured at the upcoming Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition in November 2024, featuring a full body advertisement wrap for its Agil Drivesafe+ Advanced driver-assistance system.

Earlier this month, a similar CRRC double-decker bus was launched at the Bus and Coach Annual Conference in Auckland, destined for New Zealand’s The Tranzit Group.

Singapore is like the only city outside China that is mass purchasing electric buses and mass deploying them on public bus routes so far.

And probably the only city in the world that will be mass purchasing electric double decker buses and mass deploying them on public bus routes so far.

Do correct me if I am wrong.
