Service 230M provides a more direct and convenient connection to Toa Payoh Bus Interchange and MRT station for residents staying at Kim Keat Avenue.

Plans for the route were first announced by the Land Transport Authority as part as an update on the Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme in April 2025, to be implemented by June 2025. The route closely mirrors the old routing of Service 230 prior to its extension to Caldecott MRT Station & Lorong 8 Toa Payoh in January 2025, except the looping area around Kim Keat Avenue which is reversed for Service 230M’s routing.

Although operating daily, operating hours for Service 230M are limited till 9pm daily, as compared to its parent Service 230 at 12:30am. In addition, the service starts operating at 6.30am on Weekdays and 9am on Weekends & Public Holidays.

It’s not so much of jelly generation, it’s more of moving into a time with ageing population. Toa Payoh is filled with many elderly, and 230 extended route caters to them as well as new families at Kim Keat. In principle, yes it’s a few mins walk from TPY int with 230 not calling it anymore, but it’s very inconvenient and impractical for these elderly or people with mobility issues to have to walk all the way to the MRT bus stop, or change buses at the swimming pool bus stop just to go into the interchange.

A potential solution could be the 3 / 811 approach, where one direction goes into the interchange and one direction does not. For 230 it could mean that the direction going towards Caldecott goes into the int, allowing passengers the chance to board or alight at the int itself and not have to cross the underpass, also allowing for pax the choice of 230 or 141 to Caldecott. However the direction towards Lor 8 can skip the int since it stops on the same side as the int and shops already.

why not both directions enter the interchange instead, there’s some space at the sawtooth berths to accommodate for 230 calling at the interchange en-route in both directions
