Buona Vista MRT Station (EW21/CC22) is an interchange station along the East-West Line (EWL) and Circle Line (CCL) Stage 4, located at the northern edge of the One North planning area. It is built near the junction of North Buona Vista Road and Commonwealth Road West. Connecting the elevated EWL station with the underground CCL station, it was the second elevated-underground interchange station built, after Paya Lebar station.
The station is named after the surrounding area which carries the same name – translated to “good sight” in Italian, the Buona Vista area is hilly, which could have inspired the name.
Buona Vista Station serves a mix of commercial and residential developments, with The Star Vista mall and Rochester Mall near the station, and HDB estates at Ghim Moh and Holland Vista. It also serves Biopolis, a biomedical research and development centre and part of the one-north business park, a developing area for the R&D and high technology cluster.

Buona Vista station’s elevated East West Line platform level has two platforms in an island platform arrangement. Half-height Platform screen doors are installed at the platform edge for commuters’ safety, and retrofitted Pro-Jet fans keep passengers cool. Similar to many older stations along the Western side of the East West Line, a simple flat roof shelters the platform level, and the station is painted with a single base colour, which is Light Green for this station.
A set of escalators, stairs and lifts connect to both the EWL concourse level (L3) for exiting the station, and transfer linkway (L2) for transfers to the Circle Line.
Passenger Information Systems, which are plasma display screens located at each platform, display expected train arrival times and key messages. Tactile flooring helps to guide the visually-handicapped from the platform to station exits and the Circle Line platforms.
Circle Line (B2):
|Platform A: Circle Line towards CC29NE1 HarbourFront via CC23 one-north (→)
Platform B: Circle Line towards CC1NS24NE6 Dhoby Ghaut & CE2NS27 Marina Bay (Peak Hour Alternate Trains) via CC21 Holland Village (←)
The underground Circle Line platform has two platforms in an island platform arrangement. Full-height Platform screen doors isolate the air-conditioned station from the tunnel environment, enhancing commuter safety and station comfort. A set of escalators, stairs and a lift connects the platform level to the concourse level one floor above. With the concourse wrapping around the platform, a large interior space is created that gives the impression of spaciousness. The platforms are wider to accommodate more passengers at CCL interchange stations such as Buona Vista.
Passenger Information Systems, which are plasma display screens located at each platform, display expected train arrival times and key messages. Tactile flooring helps to guide the visually-handicapped from the platform to the East West Line platform and station exits.
East West Line and Circle Line station concourses are at Level 3 and Basement 1 respectively. They feature faregates for automatic fare collection and provides access between paid and unpaid areas of the station, with at least one bidirectional wide-swinging gate for the benefit of passengers-in-wheelchairs and those carrying bulky items or travelling with prams.
General Ticketing Machines allow commuters to purchase tickets for single or multiple journeys, and along with TransitLink Add Value Machines (EWL) and Top-up Machines (CCL), offer contactless card transactions. The station offices at each concourse function as a Passenger Service Centre, and is staffed during operating hours, where commuters may make travel inquiries.
Both EWL and CCL stations are connected by a transfer linkway within paid areas. Escalators and lifts lead from the CCL Concourse level (Basement 1) to the Transfer floor (Level 2) where another set of escalators and lifts connect with the EWL platform.
The CCL concourse level is also equipped with an unpaid corridor which allows pedestrians to use the station as an underpass crossing underneath North Buona Vista Road, without having to enter the rail network. At Level 1, a TransitLink Service Centre / Concession card replacement office is open from 1000hrs to 1800hrs daily, except public holidays.
Toilets are located in the unpaid areas of both concourse levels, situated near the Passenger Service Centres. There are retail shops within unpaid areas of the EWL concourses, at Level 1.
CCL Art in Transit: “The Tree of Life” by Gilles Massot
Scenic tropical greenery along South Buona Vista were the earliest impressions Massot had of Singapore when he first arrived in 1981. This strong sense of nature and greenery and its association to the name Buona Vista inspired this artwork. Situated close to Rochester and Nepal Parks, The Tree of Life is an attempt to bring the over-ground landscape to the underground station. This eucalyptus tree, though not an indigenous species, has been selected as the subject for its shape and texture of the bark, as well as the colour to complement the colour scheme of the station. Dimension and movement created through the use of tiling technique brings life to the station space.
Civil Defence shelter
Buona Vista CCL station is one of eleven stations along the Circle Line designated as Civil Defence (CD) shelters, which will be activated in times of national emergency. Apart from reinforced construction, the stations are designed and equipped with facilities to ensure the shelter environment is tolerable for all shelterees during shelter occupation. These facilities include protective blast doors, decontamination facilities, ventilation systems, power and water supply systems and a dry toilet system.
Buona Vista MRT station has three exits at ground level (A, C and D), all of which provide barrier-free accessibility for the disabled. An overground Exit B leads to an overhead bridge across North Buona Vista Road which does not provide disabled access.

Rail Bridging Services
In the event of a MRT service disruption affecting Buona Vista station, rail bridging services (also called MRT breakdown shuttle buses) may be activated to ply affected stretches of the East-West Line or Circle Line. In which case, the buses can be boarded from the following bus stops:
|East West Line|
|EW1 Pasir Ris||B/s 2: 11361 – Nth Buona Vista Rd (Buona Vista Stn Exit C)||B / C|
|EW33 Tuas Link||B/s 3: 11369 – Nth Buona Vista Rd (Buona Vista Stn Exit D)||D|

|CC29NE1 HarbourFront||B/s 3: 11369 – Nth Buona Vista Rd (Buona Vista Stn Exit D)||D|
In the event of a large-scale rail disruption affecting multiple lines, special shuttle bus services may be activated in addition to the usual bus bridging services. They are:
|Buona Vista – Clementi – Jurong East – Boon Lay||B/s 2: 11361 – Nth Buona Vista Rd (Buona Vista Stn Exit C)||B / C|
In addition, passengers can board regular bus services at bus stops officially linked to Buona Vista station for free rides.
Passenger Usage Patterns
Buona Vista is an important interchange station linking the East-West Line with the Circle Line, and as such, encounters large numbers of transfer passengers between the two lines. It also benefits shopping malls, as well as offices and residential developments in the vicinity, hence passenger traffic through this station is relatively high.
Circle Line Stage 4 (CCL4) Contract C855 for the construction of Holland, Buona Vista, one-North and National University Hospital stations and associated tunnels was awarded to Japanese and local companies Nishimatsu / Lum Chang Joint Venture.
