Actually, it could be due to the lack of space below the platform, that is why they opted for cross-platform transfer.
Also, the arrangement of this would also indicate that there may be provisions to extend the JRL northwards into Lim Chu Kang in the longer term, which the JRL capacity may be justifiable due to the probable lack of demand at Lim Chu Kang area even in the longer term.
