The Interchange
Yio Chu Kang Bus Interchange is a bus station located in the residential town of Ang Mo Kio. Connecting with Yio Chu Kang MRT Station along the North South MRT Line, the interchange is a transport node for commuters heading in and out of town, allowing for convenient transfers between the rail network and the bus services at the interchange.
The interchange has a single vehicular concourse area with an entrance along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 and exit along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6.
The interchange concourse has pedestrian entrance/exits located on all sides. A pair of bus stops along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 allows for easy transfer to passing-by bus services that do not call at the interchange. All berths at the interchange are wheelchair-accessible.
Historical Background
To alleviate overcrowding in Ang Mo Kio Town Centre and provide an alternate terminating point for buses north of the expanding Ang Mo Kio New Town, a bus terminal was built near Yio Chu Kang MRT station with the intention of catering to a handful of bus services.
While the MRT station opened on 7 November 1987, Yio Chu Kang Bus Terminal opened on 13 December 1987 when Trans-Island Bus Service (TIBS) introduced the temporary Service SS1 to Yishun, a service which would be withdrawn the following year after the North South Line reached Yishun. Several bus services were added to the bus terminal over the following years.
In August 2013, the terminal was renamed to Yio Chu Kang Bus Interchange.
Expansion
Main Article: Expansion of Yio Chu Kang Bus Interchange
As part of works to transform Yio Chu Kang Bus Interchange into a full-fledged bus interchange, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has constructed a new interchange concourse north of Yio Chu Kang MRT station, featuring more commuter facilities and bus parking lots. The original interchange, which occupies 4,730 square meters, was expanded by more than 3 times to around 16,200 square meters after expansion works are completed.
Note: In March 2018, The area of Yio Chu Kang Bus Interchange was reported to be 6,849 square meters by an article on the Yio Chu Kang Expansion on 8World, as per figures supplied by the LTA then. This figure was revised to 4,730 square meters in a LTA press release on 16 October 2019.
Phase 1 of the opening of Yio Chu Kang Bus Interchange expansion opened on 13 October 2019, with the relocation of the then existing Berth B1 into the new concourse.
While the location of the alighting berths would not change, boarding berths were relocated to the new concourse. Renovation work to existing parts of Yio Chu Kang Bus Interchange were carried out after the opening of the interchange expansion.
Remaining bus services at the existing bus interchange were relocated to the expansion on Sunday, 17 November 2019.

what if this interchange was an extension to amk int, since both are found in ang mo kio estate. If thats the case:
– shift services 22, 45, 73, 265, 268 here
– shift service 162 to amk int
– 265 no longer goes to amk int like 268
Random ideas for Yio Chu Kang Int that should work:
1. Construct bus park north of boarding berths, increasing interchange capacity.
2. Amend 45 & 268 to YCKBI. 268 will not serve AMK St 64 Industrial.
3. Convert 265 to Dual-Loop Feeder (Ang Mo Kio ↺ AMK Ave 10/St 62), replacing 268 deleted sectors.
4. Extend 169 to YCK via AMK Ave 8. Commuters from AMK MRT can board at pair of bus stops outside AMKBI. This is due to:
– 169 has lowest frequency of all trunks at AMKBI. Waiting at outdoor bus stops will be less troubling.
– 169 is TTS, which is already an operator at YCKBI.
– Free up AMKBI bus park space for 265 (which is by the egress).
