Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau MAN A95 assembled at Gemilang

A facelifted MAN A95 bus for the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Cross Boundary Shuttle Bus has been spotted undergoing assembly at Gemilang Coachworks.

One unit has been identified, bearing a Gold livery. The characters “港珠澳” at the front indicate Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macau, the three major cities served by the new Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge which is expected to open in 2018, carrying road traffic only.

A contract to operate cross-boundary shuttle bus services was jointly issued by the transport departments of Hong Kong, Macau and China, and awarded to a single consortium of three companies each based in the three regions: Zhuhai Yueyun Transportation Co., Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus Services, and Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Land Transportation (Macao) Corp..

As reported in the hkitalk forums in December 2017, three bus models will be procured for the cross-boundary shuttle: Euro VI Scania K250UB, Euro V MAN ND363F, and the third model is to be confirmed. A total of roughly 90 buses will be purchased.

The MAN ND363F undergoing assembly at Gemilang is fitted with the MAN Lion’s City DD bodywork supplied and assembled by Gemilang Coachworks, licensed by MAN. The exterior bears much resemblance to the 122 Facelifted MAN A95 buses ordered by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in 2016, featuring identical bodywork styling elements. Furthermore, there appears to be a third door located on the right side of the bus which could be a result of differing traffic arrangements. In Hong Kong and Macau, traffic drives on the left, while in China, traffic drives on the right.

New Lantau Bus recently purchased a batch of 16 MAN ND363F (A95) buses with the Facelifted MAN Lion’s City DD bodywork. The company was awarded a contract to provide bus services to and from the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facility of the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau facility, which is located on an artificial island next to Hong Kong International Airport. These buses were first spotted undergoing in transit through Singapore on its way to Hong Kong.
