Since May 2018, the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) trains have been progressively delivered to Singapore.
The TEL will be opened in phases, and a total of 91 trains will serve the line when fully operational. Each train comprises four cars, and all trains are manufactured in Qingdao, China by a consortium formed by Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries and China’s CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd.
Trains are delivered to Singapore by sea, and then transported from Jurong Port to Mandai Depot by road.
The first of these CT251 trains were delivered in May 2018, more than 18 months ahead of the TEL’s eventual opening in January 2020. Train deliveries are ongoing, with all 91 trains expected to arrive by 2022. Set 2066 was delivered in early July 2021.
At the same time, the TEL Stage 2 will open on 28 August 2021, comprising six stations between Springleaf and Caldecott.
